NC GOP goes after low income folks, again

Requiring community service for those receiving food assistance:

The bill itself requires that those receiving food assistance or other payments perform at least four hours of community service in their first four weeks of receiving the payments.

I guess there's not enough "shame" already associated with needing Food Stamps to feed your family, so let's pile on some more. In addition to the striped jumpsuits with a "U" for unemployed, we now need some that have an "H" for hungry. Just when I think Republicans have bottomed out, they hit a new low.

And of course, there's the old "Cadillac-driving Food-Stamp Welfare-mother" meme to please the fucking idiot brigade:

Originally, the new draft simply said that if a recipient OWNED a car worth more than $15,000 that the car would count toward that determination. Committee members changed that to say if such a car is LEASED that it would also count toward the benefit calculation.

“We’re creative here,” responded bill sponsor Sen. David Rouzer, a Benson Republican. “We can make it so that it achieves the aim we’re trying to achieve…All I’m saying is if you’re going to receive a welfare benefit, drive a car that’s less than $15,000.”

You're creative, all right. Create an issue, then create a draconian, inhumane-bordering-on-sociopathic solution for said created issue. Disgusting.

Wasteland of the Free

Living in the wasteland of the free
Where the poor have become the enemy.
Let's blame our troubles on the weak ones -
Sounds like some kind of Hitler remedy.
Living in the wasteland of the free.

Very appropriate

It seems like damned near every piece of legislation the GOP writes takes something away from one group of people or another. Teachers, the poor, women, state government employees. The list goes on.
