Standing Pat?

I missed this story last week, an interesting analysis of how Republicans in the US House of Representatives are feeling "freedom" to vote their consciences now that they're no longer in the majority. Isn't that something? Grown men and women flat out admitting that they haven't been voting with personal integrity for the past six years because they're afraid of @$$holes like Tom Delay and Karl Rove. Disgustible.

Anyway, what does this have to do with North Carolina? Well, not surprisingly, one of the hypocritical Republicans the reporter interviewed is our own little Pat McHenry, who had this choice comment:

"As a junior member, there is a certain amount of liberation in the minority. You have a greater freedom of action, not just in private but in public," said Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., another floor warrior. "When you are in the majority, you have a line to toe, and that can be a heavy burden. It's more like an anchor than a line."

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Little Pat can't even get hypocrisy right. As a Bushbot from the ground up, Pat McHenry hasn't once displayed anything even remotely resembling independent thinking on any issue. What the hell is he talking about?

But it is reassuring to know that Pat has greater freedom of action, not just in private, but in public too.

Can you believe he actually said that?

Comments

And don't forget

there's a lot more idiocy from Pat at one of my favorite North Carolina blogs, Pat Go Bye-Bye.

My God! Officer do something!

Looking at that pic of Patty standing behind that little boy should make the little boy family very nervous if they knew why he has the nickname " Patty"

No...I can't believe he said that

So...now that he has all this private freedom, what do you think he's doing with it?

Highland games

with kilts!

(PS I'm working on two novels . . .you know about the one called Jesus Swept . . . but there's another called Plaid. It's about Patty.)

When will they be available

to the public? Inquiring minds would like to know ; )

Jesus Swept

will be finished this summer. Then I have to figure out if I'm going to try to find an agent/publisher or just do it out here on the Tubes.

Plaid's less than half done, but shaping up to be pretty darn weird. Here's one of my favorite scenes between Allan Tweedside (a kilt-wearing clown modeled after Pat McHenry) and his boss, Arlene.

‘I’d like a piece of that candy, Mr. Tweedside.’

Allan opens a sweaty hand holding three individually wrapped Tootsie Rolls. Miss Arlene takes two. She sets one on her desk and peels the wrapper from the other. She mashes the paper into a tight little wad and throws it toward the wastebasket behind her desk, missing by a foot. She pops the brown slug into her bright red mouth. The Tootsie Roll is old and stiff. She gnaws on it, trying to soften it up. She lifts it with her tongue and wedges it between her back teeth.

‘Do you shave your private parts, Mr. Tweedside?’

Her voice belongs in a courtroom.

Allan squirms.

Miss Arlene spins away on her heels and baby-steps back behind her desk. She pulls her chair forward, bends slightly, and sits. Her hostile eyes slide into the cave between Allan Tweedside’s legs.

The lump of Tootsie Roll slips from between her teeth and catches in her throat. She tries to cough. The Tootsie Roll won’t budge. She opens and closes her mouth. Her voice belongs in a silent movie.

Miss Arlene points frantically over her shoulder, imploring Allan Tweedside to help, hoping he’ll turn into Mr. Heimlich. She strains to expand her ribcage, to suck some oxygen into her lungs. Nothing doing.

Allan looks toward the door, wondering when the life savers will arrive. Miss Arlene claws across her desk, stretching toward Allan’s cave. He scoots back in his chair.

Allan stands and looks at the desk where Miss Arlene’s face is mashed against her leather-trimmed blotter. He watches her beehive shudder. He picks up the Tootsie Roll Miss Arlene didn’t unwrap. He backs away three steps. He turns and turns again. He leaves, closing the door behind him.

You are soooooo mean A

these little glimpses just leave me wanting MORE. Do you have a list of people you'll be selling signed, first editions of Jesus Swept to? If so, please put my name on that list!

I've traded in most of my real life friends

for my friends here at BlueNC and at a few other blogs. I figure if I'm going to live a life, I might as well have it make a difference.

I often say that if you take the T and the M out of "time" and replace them with L and F, you turn time into "life." Which is to say, all we have in our life is our time, and how we spend our time is exactly equal to how we spend our lives.

i prefer to spend mine with you all - fighting the good fight and keeping the Dark Side at bay.

when politicians start to think like this

they must go. They have a line to toe? WTF is that. They should be in Washington toeing the line WE of North Carolina gave them, not what some political leader somewhere else dictates.

Our government is of the people not of the two (or five) political leaders. The president, majority and minority leaders of the house and senate are NOT the government of the people, they are just elected officials. They do NOT represent the ideals and represent the issues of this country. When all the elected folks talk with their own mouths do we have a government that is representing us.

What a spineless, oooo forget it, he is not worth commenting on. I just hope someone runs against him and he is voted out.

I dont care what political affiliation you are, that statement is disgusting. As a member you have an obligation to speak your mind and not be hampered with these concerns. This guy is not a statesman, but a yes man. A monkey can be a yes man. We can teach him to wiggle his head up and down or side to side based on stimulints provided. We did not vote in a monkey, well, in this case thats what we got.

Pat Mac

will live to regret the day he pissed off Parmea.

I was just thinking the same thing.

"And you thought Barney Frank was tough, Patty Mac. Wait 'til you get a load of our parmea."

thank you for the comments, all.

I am finally done retching from the pat statement. Took a while. whooooops I thought about it again, their goes lunch again.

Not sure who barney frank is.

Frank

is a Congressman from Massachusetts who handed Pat McHenry his @$$ on the floor of the House of Representatives earlier this year.

And for that,

Frank will forever be one of my heroes. It was a joy to watch.

Now, Now everyone

Lets not make fun of dear Patty Mac just because of his perchance for plaid and kilts. This Mc happens to love plaid. And I would get a kilt if the misses would let me. And I also think that I was at that highland games that the picture came from.

I think that there is plenty to deride him for than his choice of extracuricular activities. (Although that picture is a bit of a "tankman" dukakis moment)

I love kilts too.

That's why I'm writing a novel about them!

IMO, virtually everything Pat does warrants derision, not because of the thing, but because of the person doing it.

Just as long as we are

all on the same page that kilts are the best article of men's clothing that has ever been developed!

Just out of curiosity, who publishes you? Just curious. I look forward to getting my hands on your books when they come out.

No publisher yet. I'm still in that idealistic phase that there will be an inspired agent and/or publisher who appreciates over-the-top poetic prose and weirdness in the Tom Robbins genre.

That's probably just wishful thinking. I've also been considering self publishing and blogging my way to famous!

But as my wonderful wife sez, "don't quit your day job."

Thanks for asking.

Im sorry but I have not gotten

the knack of crossin my legs. And if you do where a kilt, only a blue bow is allowed under there for the off-chance something comes up.

I dont think I am quite that free spirited just yet to properly wear a kilt in public. Maybe thats why that belt pouch is in front?

You only get the blue ribbon

Actually

The way they are made, you almost have to intentionally let them fly up for anyone to see anything. That is why it is important to be made out of heavier material, and also the reason for all the pleats in the back.

At a Conan OBrien show I attended

the guest singer wore a kilt. The people next to us told us that he had a rep for flashing the audience. ANd he did it! They had to do the black box thing. Fun.

News of the 10th district: See Pat Go Bye Bye,

According to a former Avery County Chair

Pat was the only one at the games in a suit. Can you imagine? He doesn't deserve the dubious claim his name gives him to Scots-Irish heritage. A fucking suit. On Grandfather Mountain. No doubt a sacred site from before we were dust. I can't believe Hugh Morton (God rest his soul) let him on the grounds. What a joke.
