Thankful Tuesdays

A big hat tip to TeddyRooseveltDemocrat for sharing an excellent piece of work from ProgressNC Action.

And once you're there, I'm asking that you share the Thankful Tuesday website far and wide. Tweet it. Facebook it. Email it. Pinterest it. Whatever it. Just do it now ... and do it often. We are at a critical moment. The tipping point is near. The Thankful Tuesday website does a better job capturing this moment than anything I've seen. It is great work. And even if you don't agree with me, please share it anyway. You never know. I might be right about something for the first time in years.

For the record

Thankful Tuesday is a government propaganda event. The whole affair should leave a bad taste in every conservative's mouth.

Just Think...

...of all the taxpayer money that will be wasted so that these ingrates can gather in downtown Raleigh!

A request

I don't know if BlueNC visitors feel like they're bombarded with requests or not. So please bear with me. I'm asking for your help.

Specifically, I'm asking that you share the Thankful Tuesday website far and wide. Tweet it. Facebook it. Email it. Pinterest it. Whatever it. Just do it now ... and do it often.

I am Thankful for...

...the clueless people who actually thought that Thankful Tuesday would be a good idea and still don't have a clue that they are a parody of themselves. At least it will be educational for them (they'll learn what "laughingstock" means; they apparently don't know now).

Thankful Tuesday ... not even the GOPs idea

If you do some Google searching, you'll notice that "Thankful Tuesdays" is something that was around before the event proposed by the NC Republicans - it's actually a been a "thing" among evangelical Christians for some years.

You'll find youth groups that have "Thankful Tuesday" "parties" or fellowship dinners, bloggers or discussion boards where Christians talk about what they're thankful for on that day of the week or blogs with posts on that theme. There's even some Pinterest boards on the topic.

It's interesting how, yet again, the GOP is connecting their brand directly with evangelical Christianity.

And now it's state sponsored!

In complete collusion with Speaker Tillis, Senator Berger, the Capitol police, Deputy Assistant Governor McCrory, and Governor Pope.

Reporters at Thankful Tuesday

Reporters at Thankful Tuesday should be asking if they're associated with particular churches. It would be very curious if the same churches that turned out demonstrators at the legislature in favor of Amendment One when that bill was being debated are turning out for this event.

I Hope the Crowd Doesn't Get out of Control!

The supposedly began at 5:00. WRAL estimates 100 people attended (that's about as many as were arrested at the last Moral Monday).

I remain thankful that they showed themselves to be fools with few passionate supporters.

I Saw *ONE* Sign...

...in a video clip. it said "Guns Save Lives".

Technically true, but missing were the signs that said:

  • Guns extinguish WAY more lives than they save
  • Anti-choice laws extinguish women's lives
  • Forcing kids to starve doesn't save lives.

The main missing sign, though, was the one that said, "I gather here with thousands of others who support the destruction of our state".

WRAL thinks that perhaps there might have been (GASP!) up to *TWO HUNDRED* people there!

According to the Raleigh News & Observer, these psychotics were among the organizers of Truthless Tuesday.

Ever throw a party and no one shows up?

Claude Pope and Donna Williams must be thoroughly embarrassed.

The best narrative of this debacle, of course, is at thankfultuesdays .

But a pretty good summary comes from NC Dems:

"I'm not sure there's much to be thankful for under this Republican leadership," said N.C. Democratic Party Spokesman Micah Beasley. "We have the 5th highest unemployment rate in the nation, we've fallen out of the top 10 for best states for business and our unemployed just had the resources they need gutted. When it comes to standing up for North Carolina's middle class, Republicans are nowhere to be found."

(NOTE TO ART, CLAUDE, TILLISBERGER and the McCRONIES: Your ideas and actions are thoroughly unpopular in your state. Keep it up; you're your own worst enemies).

Gun nuts at Thankful Tuesdays

According to the Raleigh News & Observer, these psychotics were among the organizers of Truthless Tuesday.

The Moccasin Creek Minutemen site is worth a look - it shows you the kind of extremists that the current Republicans are appealing to. It's mostly gun rights stuff, but it's the usual kind of John Bircher/"oh my god the US is turning socialist" kind of paranoid bullshit. There's a small network of these groups including the Swift Creek Minutemen and the Maryland Minutemen.

From what I can gather, the biggest event they had was a kind of "town hall" meeting with three NC sheriffs (Donnie Harrison-Wake County, Jerry Jones-Franklin County and Carey Winders-Wayne County) about how the US was going to confiscate all their guns. Sheriff Jones of Franklin County, btw, sent a follow-up letter to the group, indicating he would violate his oath of office to uphold the Constitution and not uphold any federal gun laws he thought were unconstitutional. A former Durham city council member wrote an op-ed about this meeting.

If the NC GOP thinks this is the "mainstream" of NC voters, this state is headed right down the toilet faster than I thought.

Let's All Thank our NC Legislature!

We salute you!

I Also Noticed...

...that their "crowd" (if you could call it that) was, shall we say, much less diverse than the Moral Monday crowds.

I think they were all cousins

Just kidding.
I don't really think that.
But some observers might.

:)

Well, You Start With...

...Art and Claude -- they're cousins. And there are quite a few Popes (just look at the campaign finance reports for many of our wing nut legislators).

:-)
