Wanna weekend retreat with Pat McHenry?

Got $9200? You'll be part of Congressman Patrick McHenry's "Congressional Circle." Your benefits include "Private Washington, DC retreat" with Pat, including "meals and a reception." And what else????

It also gets you a"two complimentary tickets to all campaign events" and the "Annual McHenry Christmas Party," "free subscription" to an exciting campaign newsletter called the McHenry Campaign Insider (a fiction writer wouldn't make this stuff up), a commemorative pin," and (not last and not least) a semiannual conference call "update."

And supposedly campaign contributions don't buy access.

What I want to know is what will it cost to get me a weekend with DUI staffer Brett Keeter and how many diamonds does he rate.

Ewwwww

That just gives me the creeps. What a little twerp this guy is. Can you imagine anyone actually signing up to be part of his "victory" circle?

Oops, I should have ended the quote

"Victory" and since it's not a club. It's a "Circle." I wonder how much time they spent thinking up all the designations.

And did you notice next to that lovely patriotic graphic, he brags of being Vice Chair of Finance for the NRCC? No mention of the finance scandal . . . I love how the NRCC refused to comment about all that until they were ready to assure people that the embezzlement stopped at one person and one person only. How much do we believe that? Like you can embezzle millions and the people around you know nothing.

Actually, I want to say that in response not just to Jerimee, whose wit and premature wisdom I admire (he's way too young to be as smart as he is), but also to Greg and to James, because I agree with the latter two about Max.

It didn't take long to notice that notwithstanding Max's sometimes cartoonish postures, and notwithstanding that he is often annoying and obnoxious, Max is also intelligent and enjoyable. I respect his zeal and his creativity and what I take to be a fairly friendly attitude toward those in opposing camps. I skip a lot of Max's posts (that all caps stuff will turn me off every time), but when I have read him I have gotten a sense of general good will.

And I must have missed (what with having frequently passed on Max's comments) where he was homophobic. I would be disappointed to find that to be the case.

Thank you for the replies.

Thank you for the replies. BlueNC is a site I have often read because of the quality of the content and the responses of the posters. Unfortunately, the poster I made the comment about has made similiar remarks in the past. What I find troubling and telling is that this type of commentary would probably not be tolerated if it targeted a group in regards to their color, religion, etc. While the poster may have intended it as satire and that is how many interpreted it why cast aspersions and denigrate a group that have already been marginalized. These are people struggling for the basic civil rights the rest of us take for granted. The problems we have today are the result of factors such as hypocrisy, greed, corruption and dishonesty. Not anyone's sexual preference. If finding a little truth or reality has to come through the belittling of a group of people I'll have to pass. Peace.

Poor Stupid Max! Republicans worst nightmare?

I agree! However! It was the George Bush persona who wrote the promotional material for Patty! Don't blame Max for George's secret desires with Patty. And you are right about those republican remarks being on liberal progressive site. They are being move to a more progressive republican site..." Real Men in Code Pink Tights"

Max is putting members of the Neal staff up at his house and his wife has large Blog Ad on her political site endorsing Mr Neal. http://www.rachelforjustice.com So much for Max's crossdressing on the internet!

Court jester

Max is somewhat of a court jester whose rantings have kernels of truth. His posts are an acquired taste if you like that sort of thing. If you don't you'll learn to pass them by. It's like living near a railroad. After a while you don't notice the trains.

Stick around and contribute. We'd love to have Max drowned out with well reasoned comments* The Great Architect Greg

Most of Max friends living by the railroad tracks are either former down and out Nam Vets or future middle class Republicans looking for work!

Max is more like a Cousin* James

Don't hand me that crap! More like that crazy cousin gag and bag in the basement?

No, the other cousin

The one who takes you out drinking in his mama's car even though you're underage and he doesn't have a license.

And then you find yourself

in a bowling-alley parking-lot standoff with five guys from the football team because your crazy cousin called one of their girlfriends a "stuck-up bitch" when she refused to acknowledge his "Hey, baby!" greeting at the shoe-rental counter. ;/

Then again, with Max it would probably go: "Wait right here, cupcake mix! I'll be back after three years of chocoholic steroid injections and abusive father-son vicarious-living quality time and then you can pick the one of us who's most crazy!"

My God. Max is eating into my brain...

pretty good, Steve!

The grammar was just a little too good, and the tenses matched. That's how we would have known you were an imposter Max.

Remember, Max, Flattery is the highest form of imitation, or something like that.

I have come to look forward to Max's posts as reality check, believe it or not. Woven through the seemingly irreverent nonsense are zen-like nuggets of truth.

Either that or I'm insane.

That's true! You win, Jerimee! But - I'm not sure what you win. I know you don't want McHenry's weekend of Fun in the Sun.

I think of him as "that cousin"

I find Max's trains oddly reassuring, but yes, an acquired taste with kernels worth finding from time to time. Sort of like the rest of us.

circle jerking underrated by rugged individualists

You say that like circle jerking is a bad thing.

I'm sure I participated in quite a few of those back when I ran in Libertarian and Objectivist circles...

I wonder how we can find out just who got these benefits. I hope they take videos of their weekends! Maybe he'll make more gaffs like the two-bit soldier comment.

Two cents

That's about 100% more than he's worth.

Johnson Calls for McHenry to Apologize

Responding to McHenry's "two-bit" attack against a security detail in the Green Zone, Johnson calls for McHenry to apologize.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/4/4/105757/6606/87/490109

As a former member of our military, I am shocked by Congressman Patrick McHenry's comments and demand he apologize immediately for calling a member of the security detail inside Baghdad's Green Zone a "two-bit security guard." The brave men and women working to secure the Green Zone are risking their lives every day to protect our personnel in Baghdad, including politicians like Congressman McHenry. Instead of insulting this brave individual, the Congressman should be thanking him and his family for their sacrifice. Congressman McHenry's behavior and comments are an embarrassment to the American people and particularly to those he represents.

Party campaign committee tactics

I think it's creepy when even party campaign committees do these kinds of blatant pay-to-play pitches. But it's so much worse when individual candidates do them. This kind of thing goes on all the time, but usually the candidate will cloak it in the NRCC, RNC, NRSC/DCCC, DNC whatever; there is the implication that the candidate will eventually get the money, but it passes through the party committee, which is legal and probably always will be.

This kind of pay-to-play pitch directly operated by the candidate should be illegal today.
