We are the Swing Vote

My friends at BlueNC, we are the swing vote in this election.

This forum has been so important to Dan Besse's candidacy for Lt. Governor over the last few months. All of our online campaign materials have launched here first because you have been so reliably supportive, attentive and responsive to Dan's message of responsible growth and the power of citizen action.

It's our belief that in this historic election year, People of Conscience are the swing vote that can tip the polls toward a result that will most resemble the progressive platform we've always dreamed of and worked so hard to establish.

BlueNC represents the most formidable and vocal group of progressive activists in North Carolina. We have the potential to influence the outcome on May 6th. That's why I'm asking you today personally to write to me and volunteer to help Dan Besse capture the votes he needs to be the Democratic nominee for Lt. Governor.

email me to volunteer in your county: frankeaton@mac.com

We need good folks to:

1. distribute signs to polling places.
2. greet voters at an early voting site.
3. greet voters at the polls on May 6.
4. recruit pollworkers for May 6.
and
5. Make calls for our virtual phone bank!

Beautiful, Frank

Great job!

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Wow.

When this is all over I hope that the Democratic Party recognizes your talent. I know you have a "real" job, but this is what you should be doing.

We ARE the swing vote

Thank you for helping to put the world on notice. Beautiful work.

Guilford County Progressive Dems canvassed with Dan

yesterday for a few hours in Greesnboro. It was great but I realized talking with people that no one knew anything about the Lt Gov. candidates and really didn't even seem to know that they would have decisions to make in the Democratic primary.

I was like they are a few years ago. I didn't know the candidates I was voting for and relied on very sketchy information to make my choices. Thanks much in part to this blog that has changed completely. Anyway, I think our efforts on behalf of Dan can make a big impact.

Progressive Democrats of North Carolina

Canvassing - and working the polls.

Because so many people don't know about the candidates - and because if they've researched anything, they've researched the Presidential Race, and the Governor's race, and probably nothing else - canvassing and working at the polls is crucial.

And, I understand from the Besse campaign that you can participate in a virtual phone bank. I bet if you email Frank, he can tell you about that, too.

I still say that this Lt. Gov. Race has been the most exciting I've watched in a long time, and I'm including this year's Presidential Race. I have had the pleasure of talking to all 4 men running for Lt. Governor, and have no doubt that all 4 of them would do a good job.

But Dan Besse is the one that I am pleased to be able to support. Dan Besse is the one I will be posting signs for, and Dan Besse is the one I will be making phone calls for.

I hope you join me.

He's got my vote

...and I'm trying to get a few friends on board to go to work for Dan here in Beaufort County.

One soldier in the ranks...

I'm another proud volunteer for Dan Besse. I always feel guilty for not being able to do more!

No hesitation here on Besse~

There are only a couple of votes in this primary that I am basing on direct knowledge of the candidates -- and those are for Dan Besse and Janet Cowell. In all my years of voting, I've rarely met candidates who instilled such confidence as these two have, both from the perspective of their personal integrity and their progressive visions.

Otherwise, two of my most important votes are based on my perception of the candidates as being "outside" the establishment. Jim Neal is one of these two, though I've wondered lately whether he is more interested in being "outside" than elected.

Brunette

As a gay man living in the United States, he has had every chance he could have wanted to be on the "outside". He would not be running if he didn't want to be elected. I am certain of it.

Give me a little credit for thought here. His outside status is not in question.

Count me in.

I'm not sure who's luckier in this situation, Dan Besse to have the tremendous effort that Mr. Eaton provides, or North Carolina to have such a wonderful potential LG. You can count me in to help, Frank, but not before I thank you for all that you do for the progressive voice in NC.

Honest, Frank

This is a great appeal. I am impressed with your approach and heart-felt words.

Can we perhaps be a bit more fair

in what gets front paged?

This is an excellent video, Frank, but I am noticing a decided pattern as to what gets front paged and what doesn't.

"Hampton Dellinger would make a great Lieutenant Governor." - Al Gore.

"Man is free at the moment he wishes to be." -Voltaire

Can we perhaps be a bit more fair

in what gets played on television?

Those are excellent commercials, Hampton, but I am noticing a decided pattern as to who is getting television commercial coverage and who isn't.

Heh.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I think it is only fair.

If Hampton's campaign wants to limit the supporter-driven media on the internet, then perhaps we should ask him to limit his supporter-driven media on the television.

sometimes, Robert

you take things a little too seriously. Anyone ever tell you that?

Neither Hampton nor anyone else is seeking to limit anything. Of course, you know that. But never let the truth get in the way of a good political shot, huh?

I look forward to being on the same side as you when are working to getting Hampton elected over his Republican opponent in November.

"Hampton Dellinger would make a great Lieutenant Governor." - Al Gore.

"Man is free at the moment he wishes to be." -Voltaire

Fair criticism.

Bring me something fresh on Hamp, preferably not a standard campaign commercial, and I'll get it upfront. The imbalance isn't intentional, but your point is well taken.

I thought Frank's "swing vote" angle had some new thinking worth promoting.

Thanks James

I appreciate your thoughtful consideration of these issues and the fact that you didn't dismiss my concern with hyperbole and ridiculousness.

I did have a very long and detailed post, with videos, about Hampton's performance in the UNC-TV debate that i thought might be worth promoting, but it got buried fairly quickly.

We should have a number of things coming from me and others as Hampton's Live Blog approaches.

Incidentally, who will be "moderating" that, or is there no such role?

Thanks, James.

"Hampton Dellinger would make a great Lieutenant Governor." - Al Gore.

"Man is free at the moment he wishes to be." -Voltaire

BTW, I never saw your post when it was up.

I think I was away either in PA or in Wilmington maybe.

p.s. I look forward to working on the same side again as well, will you need a Besse bumper sticker?

Right now,

since I'm the one who set up the live blog, I'll be moderating the Dellinger Live Blog on Sunday. If you or the campaign are uncomfortable with that, please say so now so that we can make other arrangements.

Thanks!

Thanks, Dr. Frank

Have you seen Pat's video?

It's here.

And it's excellent as well. Pat's win at the 10th District Straw Poll is further proof that this race is neck and neck and that our humble down-ballot race is just aching for an upset!

yes i did

and you're right.

Four very solid candidates, like I have always said. I believe I am backing the best one.

Guess we'll find out over the next few weeks.

"Hampton Dellinger would make a great Lieutenant Governor." - Al Gore.

"Man is free at the moment he wishes to be." -Voltaire

I have said all along that

I have said all along that this race is one of the most interesting political contests I've ever seen. We have an embarrassment of riches in this field, and it's a shame that only one of these candidates will emerge after May to go on to represent us in November. The NC Democratic Party is rich in depth, all we need to do is take a look at this race.

And I must say, it's been, for the most part, a positive race (at least it has appeared that way to me), and should be an example for once and future governors.
