Should be a big night here in Blue-ville. Did you read where Liddy weighed in on the tournament?

"One North Carolina team already had Kansas on the ropes, and now it's time for the Tar Heels to finish the Jayhawks off," said Elizabeth Dole in a statement.

In a statement? You mean someone actually took the time to write down such an unappealing mixed metaphor? I understand the political benefit of leeching onto to the Final Four, but sheesh. They could at least do it with a little class.

Back from the beach

There's nothing better than letting the sea breeze blow all your worries and stress away for a week on Topsail Island.
But even at the beach My mind started thinking about politics now and then:

Game. Ugh.

10 things to know about McCain

From Move On:

10 things you should know about John McCain (but probably don't):

1. John McCain voted against establishing a national holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Now he says his position has "evolved," yet he's continued to oppose key civil rights laws.1

2. According to Bloomberg News, McCain is more hawkish than Bush on Iraq, Russia and China. Conservative columnist Pat Buchanan says McCain "will make Cheney look like Gandhi."2
3. His reputation is built on his opposition to torture, but McCain voted against a bill to ban waterboarding, and then applauded President Bush for vetoing that ban.3

4. McCain opposes a woman's right to choose. He said, "I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned."4

5. The Children's Defense Fund rated McCain as the worst senator in Congress for children. He voted against the children's health care bill last year, then defended Bush's veto of the bill.5

6. He's one of the richest people in a Senate filled with millionaires. The Associated Press reports he and his wife own at least eight homes! Yet McCain says the solution to the housing crisis is for people facing foreclosure to get a "second job" and skip their vacations.6

7. Many of McCain's fellow Republican senators say he's too reckless to be commander in chief. One Republican senator said: "The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He's erratic. He's hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."7

8. McCain talks a lot about taking on special interests, but his campaign manager and top advisers are actually lobbyists. The government watchdog group Public Citizen says McCain has 59 lobbyists raising money for his campaign, more than any of the other presidential candidates.8

9. McCain has sought closer ties to the extreme religious right in recent years. The pastor McCain calls his "spiritual guide," Rod Parsley, believes America's founding mission is to destroy Islam, which he calls a "false religion." McCain sought the political support of right-wing preacher John Hagee, who believes Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for gay rights and called the Catholic Church "the Antichrist" and a "false cult."9

10. He positions himself as pro-environment, but he scored a 0—yes, zero—from the League of Conservation Voters last year.

Liddy's home team won.

Next, the Washington Nationals take out the Harlem Globetrotters and Liddy will be two for two.

Could use some explaining....

Your recent query to one of the candidates in my district,(5th) left me wondering what I missed. This was about impeachment, which she didn't feel should be done so that congress wouldn't be prevented from completing their tasks. What has been completed? The minimum wage, and ?? Bush vetoes anything that the people would gain from! So now he goes out without any black marks for cotinuously violating our constitution. I realize that the Senate would not get the votes to convict, but everyone has to go on record as to why he is voting his choice. Is this administration to be the new standard of what to expect? More signing statements than all previous administrations added together! Media campaigns to put us into 'wars of choice' by some chickenhawks! Unanswered subpoenas because they are dealing with spineless congressmen. Without any logic behind her decision that I can understand, there won't be any support from me.

Same here

This is why I've stopped contributing to my good friend David Price. He uses the same rhetoric: "Impeachment would have been a distraction."

To which I say what you say: Distraction from what? The freakin' state department just renewed Blackwater's contract for another whole year. If our Congressmen can't stop that kind of bullshit, they can't do anything.

The talking points coming out of

our "liberal" NC Congress Critters on Impeachment; Price, Watt, Miller were almost identical about it. Even John Edwards said it, the country went through too much with the Clinton Impeachment. We must never do that again unless the most dire circumstances face us. Well, W is the most dire thing anyone could have dreamed of.

The back story must be interesting. What could get these Democrats to curl up like slugs facing a salt shaker?

Thanks, LoftT. This is hilarious.

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
