DCCC does right by Larry

Kudos to the DCCC . . . from campaign emails and also posted at The Hill.

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) Chairman Rep. Chris Van Hollen (Md.) is asking supporters to come to the aid of Larry Kissell, the high school teacher and former mill worker who ran up $35,000 in credit card debt campaigning for North Carolina’s 8th district Congressional seat in the November midterm.

Van Hollen and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will host a reception at the DCCC headquarters Wednesday, Aug. 1, aimed at paying off the personal debt Kissell accrued. The DCCC will match donated funds 2-1.

::

“North Carolina's 8th district is one of our best opportunities to expand our Democratic Majority,” Van Hollen said. “This year, Larry has picked up right where he left off by running a strong campaign.”

If you've been putting off the chance to help Larry dig out, this is a good chance to get your contribution matched 2-to-1! And more important, this is a good chance to support a man who represents North Carolina in a way that Robin Hayes couldn't even dream of doing. You can also support Larry through ActBlueNC by clicking the little blue box.

Glad to see this

The DCCC sees this as an opportunity - finally. I hope they regret their missed opportunity from 2006.

They do regret it Todd

Van Hollen has mentioned it and so has the man who caused the oversight - Rahm Emanuel. Van Hollen said on his call to key Kissell supporters/staff that they weren't going to dwell on that and talk about what could have been. I agree. This is all about moving forward and it looks like the DCCC has decided to move forward and to take Larry with them.

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Picked up?

“This year, Larry has picked up right where he left off by running a strong campaign.”

Larry never left off, did he?

I'm so glad to see the DCCC behind him. Let's hope that this is just the beginning!

You're right, Larry never stopped

DCCc and Kissell

They call me and ask for money but did not mention this support for larry.

They call and call. OF all the organizations this is one I am least inclined towards. why not give directly to larry? I am trying to get over my resentment of how they ignored kissell.

The money they're asking for this time

does go to Larry. This is not their general fund. I'm quickly getting over my displeasure. New leadership at DCCC and Artur Davis is still in there pulling for Larry, so I'm a little more inclined to maybe even give to D-trip later on.

I plan to give my $50 to Larry since that $50 turns into $150. I wish I could do more.

Saw Congressman Van Hollen the other day

He was doing a canvass briefing for 60 or so canvassers in DC. I was able to ask him during the Q&A why he chose to target NC-08 this time (obviously trying to set him up for the "grassroots is awesome" answer.) He touched on that, but then said that because they just didn't have as reliable of-polliing numbers for Larry last time, and that he knew they could win this time.

He said "Larry Kissel is a great man, and a great Democrat." and plugged he and his campaign for about 2 minutes.

Miss yall down in NC.

peace,
jw

Hi JW!

We sure miss you down here too, but know you're doing important work in DC.

Hopefully, Rep. Van Hollen understands that you can't measure a race by poll numbers alone.
