Dear Liddy,
Dear Liddy,
I understand that you failed to take our advice (yet again) and voted against the Webb Amendment today. So tell me, Liddy, how does it feel to find yourself in the company of those who no longer support our troops? Do you like the view from over there? That's certainly where we, the good citizens of your state, see you—and especially the thousands upon thousands of active duty and reservist citizens that call North Carolina home.
I'm curious, Liddy, what was the thought process in your vote? I know it's a lot to ask, but bear with me here. At the risk of causing irreparable damage to my own neocortical functioning, I'd like to know how you think? Did you really believe the Orwellian logic of RNC Chair Mel Martinez when he said that supporting our troops "would demean their service"? Help me understand how that works. I realize I'm a bit slow when it comes to Republican Logic (or, uh, is that in itself oxymoronic?), but I really would like to understand. I really would. War is peace? Is that how it goes?
Or when it comes to supporting the troops, were you thinking of your ideological heartthrobs, Bush and Cheney? Is that it? Those are the troops you think you're supposed to support? I got news for you, girl ... Cheney loaded up on deferments, so he doesn't qualify for "troops" by any stretch of the imagination; he talks like a tough guy packin' iron, but I wouldn't want to go hunting with him. And Bush, well, the verdict is still out on his so-called military service. Yeah, he looks spiffy in a flight jacket, but putting that man in a fighter jet makes him a soldier like putting a wheelbarrow in a garage makes it a Volvo.
Well, I must say I'm disappointed in you, Liddy. I thought all the rhetoric meant something. Guess I was wrong. Silly me. But please, by all means stay true to the Bush League vision. By all means, continue to support the policies of the present administration. Each vote you cast only serves to insure that you will be replaced come the next election.
Yours truly,
A North Carolinian

So, Liddy. You were more scared of Bush and Cheney than you were the voters of North Carolina, were you? See you back in Kansas or DC or wherever the hell you come from in Jan. 09.
North Carolina. Turning the South Blue!
