biggest enemies
NK, less so Iran then a long rant about "conduct change" vs "regime change"
this is supposed to be his big strength and he just completely failed to show he knows something.
gravel just said we have no enemies. "im not afraid of anyone" attacked military industrial culture.
edwards-- question about russia. friend or foe? called putin govt an autocracy. then talked about how do we change what is happening. "turn america into a force for good again" sanitation in africa. education in africa and the muslim world.
I thought there was a decent amount of substance for a 60 second answer. I thought he missed a golden oppurtunity to say we don't have three allies thanks to george w. bush.
I wanted Edwards to talk more about Russia so I could hear him say "Putin" again. I don't think there is a way to say it phonetically. (And it's hard not to be superficial when these events are so superficial. Hardly any substance at all.)

HI
I dont understand Clinton's position on Health Care: "No money on health care until we fix what we have" ? hmm
Does she mean:
1. No money until the current broken system is working again?
2. No more money for health care until we reform the system?
3. No more money for health care?
Is her answer vague and likely to sound tough on health care ?
This is one of the impt issues to me. I do not know what anyone else wants to do except John Edwards. Too bad this debate did not focus more attention on it.

and a smile . . . I particularly noticed (after yesterday's post but also) because Matthews actually talked about it in the "pre-show." He said something about it being an issue the women have to deal with. Ha! But acted like she's lucky that she doesn't have to wear charcoal. Then, that's what she wore. It certainly fit in with the guys in the overall look and I think it was good strategy.
Should have noticed and done a whole diary post on the guy's tie colors (Obama in red) and what they mean. As a person now involved with video and what looks good or not on camera, I do notice what people wear and how it comes across. The guys' white shirts don't do well at all. Someone will figure that out and then they'll all be wearing blue shirts. Watch the next debate.
Didn't notice hair or makeup but Mr. DQ did note that Edwards had at least one hair out of place.

about how pretty Obama's wife is. And how people like that Hillary was demure! In pearls (no mention of the pasties, Robert) His fellow wonks seemed a bit taken aback so he said something like we always talk about the men's appearance. Edward's haircut.
Andrea said that was about "authenticity." someone else said "expense accounts."
Then Andrea Mitchell said we never talk about the cut of the men's suits.
Scarborough said you can't attack a woman (he ran against one his first time).
Matthews then mentions the Bush "I kicked her ass" remark that he says did Bush, Sr. no good. I'm not sure about that. The people that didn't like it weren't going to vote for him anyway. It's practically the only ballsy thing he's ever done.

saying no one can help but talk this way even after half a day.
Tucker is now ripping into Obama as being very unspecific in comparison to Hillary. Saying Hillary is much more well received than Obama here. Mainly because she is talking local details. He's calling Obama "abstract." Talented but abstract.
I was really disappointed in Edwards performance, but then my expectations are pretty high for him. His responses on the priviledge (he can give the 'son of a mill worker' speech so much better) and moral leader (how long of a pause was that?) questions were weak, and on the Hedge Fund question I thought it was a golden oppurtunity to say "because ultimately capitalism is good" or somesuch to just stop any characterization of him as a socialist.
I thought HRC was fine, not great, not terrible, just fine. I think Hillary's response on the VT shooting question encasulated why I can't support her...was that supposed to be an emotional response? Her response to the "mistake" question was probably the best.
I was impressed with Obama, I've been skeptical but I thought he showed a lot more depth to his answers than I expected, I was not converted to drooling fanboy status like so many people seem to be though.
I'm confused as to why Bill Richardson is a Democrat if all he wants to talk about is Guns and why he's so willing to use the military. Also I haven't seen someone shoehorn in their talking points so obviously since Sen. Dole on Meet the Press right before the last election. "I deal with all of this as Governor, because Governor's do stuff like this, they're Executives Governors, which is what I am, a Governor"
Somebody tell Gravel to STFU never mind this grin and put up with it BS.
I thought Biden's one word answer was hilarous, this is the guy everyone says can't shut up. Doesn't matter what the question is I would think that will get so much play. Overall I thought he did well, but he showed he doesnt know when to shut up a few times.
The chief justice question would have been good if implemented better (all candidates got a semi-long response).

for television in his appearance (hair can be the toughest thing) but also in his presentation skills. He rushed his phrases and then paused in a jerky manner and stumbled quite a bit for a professional. Yes, like a blogger. It was odd for a campaign of this stature to have someone who doesn't speak comfortably.
I'm also wondering why the Edwards campaign wasn't on MSNBC for an hour. Richardson and Biden and lower level campaigns had much better time slots and better speakers.
But Tucker is a worm and asked really bad questions in a truly ignorant fashion.
Listening instead of watching was interesting. After looking at some clips, I'm already sick of bunting.

gray jacket, black shirt, pearls

It certainly fit in with the guys in the overall look and I think it was good strategy.
Should have noticed and done a whole diary post on the guy's tie colors (Obama in red) and what they mean. about how pretty Obama's wife is.

My thoughts
Chris Dodd should have left this race yesterday.
