Disgusting...

Hat tip, Marc Ambinder at The Atlantic.

The VRWAM (vast right wing attack machine) is already starting its engines on Obama. First, the NCGOP runs a horrible ad against our Democratic gubernatorial candidates by trying to smear Obama's Wright controversy on them. And now this.

Anyone remember Floyd Brown? He's the lovely fellow who created the Willie Horton ad that pretty much put the nail in the coffin of Mike Dukakis' presidential bid. I was torn whether to give this clown any more press than he deserves, but I really do feel like sunlight is the best disinfectant for ignorant, fear peddling ideologue. Here's the money quote from his website:

Make no mistake, there are people in the United States who despise America... hate America... and hate our way of life. Barack Hussein Obama is THEIR CANDIDATE and they will do everything in their power to make sure that patriotic Americans do not understand exactly how dangerous Barack Hussein Obama really is. They'll hide his record and his past and they'll tar-and-feather his opposition.

Ah yes, the old "hate America" canard. This is exactly the type of politics that Obama is trying to lift the dialogue above. I'll be curious to see if McCain denounces Floyd Brown like he did the NCGOP ad. Or, and I'll make this call now, McCain denounces the ad, "appeals to them" to not run it with a wink and a nod and they run it anyways. McCain's hands stay clean but the attack machine keeps running. We'll see.

The bitters are back.

Only in this case it's the "scared bitters" - the GOP leadership who sees the end of their gravy train in sight. These people and their enablers have made a literal killing from the Bush War Machine ... and the risk that they might lose control is a powerful motivator.

Sunshine is a key word around here.

And you're right, it is one of the best disinfectants nature ever made. Shine on.

We've got to be ready for this, we knew it was coming, but the smell coming from it still makes me slightly nauseous.

Fear is a powerful force.. The GOP is afraid of Obama

Their ads and voices show a sense of fear and desperation. I think it is good for the GOP to be foolish enought to show their real face to the citizens of NC.

We should not assume that the average citizen cannot see through at least some of the propoganda spilled by the NCGOP and the USGOP for that matter.

I know fear, lies and character assasination do have their negative effect, but I also believe that we, as a culture, are smarter than we once were. I hope anyway.

Rec'd and commented Pam

looks like there's a lively discussion going on too! Thank you for writing this article Pam.

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

2 billion dollars for Wind Power...so that we can burn domestic natural gas in our cars...I think.

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
