Elizabeth Edwards, Kay Hagan, Emily's List & MoveOn
North Carolina's own Elizabeth Edwards has teamed up with with Moveon.Org and Emily’s List to promote electing more women to Congress.
In an email sent today, Elizabeth writes:
Health care is an issue that is really close to my heart. And I know it matters to a lot of Americans, particularly mothers. But time and again, Republicans have blocked progress on expanding health care—most recently the expansion of the children's health insurance program—and on so many other important issues.
That's why we need to elect more progressive women in Congress in 2008, to stand with President Obama on healthcare and other key issues.
MoveOn is working with EMILY's List to highlight some great candidates like Kay Hagan, a legislator in my home state of North Carolina who is running for U.S. Senate. It is a race that the pundits and politicos had previously ignored, but no longer: Last week the Washington Post rated it as one of the most winnable Senate races for Democrats in the country.1
Elizabeth has oft discussed the disparities women face, particulary with regard to healthcare, her number one issue. Continuing to take on McCain's disasterous healthcare "plan," Elizabeth writes today in a post at the Wonk Room about the centerpiece of McCain’s plan: the individual market:
Senator John McCain’s health plan is based on the idea that everyone should be on their own to buy their health insurance on the individual market. And it’s an approach fundamentally at odds with the point of health insurance: that we share risks. People with preexisting conditions, like McCain and myself, would pay much more for health insurance under his health plan, if we could get coverage at all.
Elizabeth, a champion of womens issues and healthcare is also partnering with Obama on healthcare and despite all of the talk that it’s John Edwards who is at the top of Obama’s Veep list, others are speculating it will be Elizabeth. ;)

"One of the most winnable Senate races"
I had not seen that article that Elizabeth cites in her email. That is great news!
Have to say it again about Elizabeth...God I love that woman! And I love how she's tearing up McCain's horrible healthcare plan.
It's so infuriariating that Republicans continue to turn their backs on 47 million Americans, many of whom are children, who have no health coverage.
What do y'all think, will Hagan win and will voters see how disasterous McCain's healthcare plan is?

This race REALLY matters..
Not just to us here in NC, as important as it is, but any "magic number" of a 60-vote filibuster proof Democratic Senate MUST mean that Kay Hagan wins in November.
I hope we continue to educate everyone in this state about this race, and also get national support to help elect a truly Democratic Senate.
Excellent point
It really is critical. And the thought of getting rid of Dole, wow!
As far as the Governor's race, I really don't understand what people see in McCrory. He reminds me of Bush. Perdue has so much more character and susbtance, along with a real committment to families and working North Carolinians.
McCrory's anti edu position, (for early childhood and first two years of college) is a real turn off. Not to mention, his idiotic comments at the debate, mocking Smart Start and going on and on about tevee shows. uggh...

Exactly
Shooting for that 60 vote margin in the Senate, particularly with as many as three Supreme Court appointments the next president could make (all three liking coming from opening from the liberal wing) is reason enough for anyone to set aside whatever differences they may have with Kay Hagan and support her candidacy.
We may not be thrilled with everything Hagan supports but we KNOW what kind of Senator Elizabeth Dole would be given the past 6 years.
Yes
With the choice being Hagan or Dole, there really should be no question, for any Democrat or Progressive as to whom to vote for.

related but unrelated
I've had to fire up an old home computer that I had in mothballs and my homepageS include JohnEdwards.com, my John Edwards email page, and the Edwards database page. Sweet, sweet, sorrow.
Thanks for the links, I hadn't seen any of this.
Oh, I know...
I watched Edwards at ACORN yesterday via their webcast and had similiar thoughts.
But, it is what it is and we move on.

Yep.
I'm actually interested again. I think I was mostly disinterested in the Obama v. Clinton race, but I am getting excited by the Obama v. McCain race.

Elizabeth was just on MSNBC discussing this:
