Elvis or Robin Hayes?

Hi folks. As I think most of my friends here know, I'm the Communications Director for Larry Kissell who's running against Robin Hayes in North Carolina's 8th District.

Yesterday Robin Hayes quite inadvertantly reminded his constituents, that no matter how many times he's succumbed to Bush arm-twisting over their interests during the years, they were at least always on his mind.

His explanation for turning his back on the children of working families and voting against SCHIP carried the very lyrical title:

"Jobs, Economic Development and More Opportunity for the 8th District ARE ALWAYS ON MY MIND"

Who do you think is more believable when he says you were always on his mind?

Elvis?

Maybe I didnt treat you
Quite as good as I should have
Maybe I didnt love you
Quite as often as I could have
Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time

You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind...

Or Robin Hayes?

"Every time I drive through Kannapolis and I see those empty plants I know there is no way I could vote for CAFTA," Hayes said. [AP 7/14/2005]

Hayes: "What does CAFTA sound like? NAFTA," he said. "It's not in the best interests of a core constituency I represent." Raleigh News and Observer, 7/14/2005]

"I am flat-out, completely, horizontally opposed to CAFTA," Hayes said. [Charlotte Observer, 7/25/2005]

He was the deciding vote FOR CAFTA and now he's telling you he's against SCHIP expansion because you are always on his mind.

I vote Elvis, and hope you'll join me in supporting the health of our kids and Larry Kissell for Congress.

In the words of Penn & Teller

Elvis didn't do no drugs!

Actually,

That would just be in the words of Penn. ;)

Oh Elvis definately. If he had been a congressman

when the CAFTA vote had taken place the legislation would not have passed. Elvis wouldn't have voted for it ... no way ... 'cuz he's dead (or in a Wal-Mart in Little Rock, either way he couldn't have voted).

Though I don't live in the 8th cong. district I bet plenty of folks there would agree that a dead Elvis would be better than a living Robin Hayes.

ZING!

You go huntin' much Persondem?

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

Oh I'll sling a verbal dart or two every now and then.

Usually not lethal. I like to target political types who aren't getting it done. Next year we have open season on Bush hogs. They're a dwindling species but there's still enough of them around to make for good sport.

And Helms begat Reagan...

Arguably, Ronald Reagan's Helms enabled win in the 1976 NC primary was all the encouragement he needed to try again in 1980, setting the stage for the Reagan Revolution and synergistic escapades like this one...

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
