Excuse our Mess
Good Morning! You might have noticed that you are receiving a few more error notices over the past couple of days. That would be my fault.
I have decided to clean up all the spam user accounts that clog our database. Of course, I've chosen to do it the hard way - one by one. Some accounts look like they are set up by real people and I have to dig into their profile to see if there are embedded links to web sites offering free porn, free sex, free money, cheap drugs, fun at casinos or surprisingly enough are simply links to legitimate businesses.
Don't worry. I'm not looking at accounts where real people have actually logged in to BlueNC. I'm looking at those spam accounts that are set up by a machine, so they can't log in. They just sit there and clog up our database.
Yes, we have filters set up. The filters aren't working for email addresses, however, they are working for usernames.
Why the hard way? Duh. You obviously don't know me very well if you have to ask that question. Heh. Actually, for every 10 - 15 spam accounts there is an account set up by a live person who simply hasn't logged in yet. I didn't want those folks out there thinking we had deleted their account before they decided to use it.
While I'm going through this spring cleaning I will have the account registration on moderation so I can delete the spam accounts as they come in.
I will try to limit my cleaning to the wee hours when we don't have quite as much traffic. I'm sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Thanks for doing this, Betsy
I did a little bit of this myself about six months ago and it's a total pain in the butt.
I just added Captcha to acct registration
I really didn't want to because it can be hard for real people to read. If anyone is in the mood to log out and click on acct registration using IE, Firefox, Safari, etc and see if you can easily read the captcha box I would appreciate it. I can check Safari.
Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.
Works
Works in IE, Firefox, Opera
Thanks, Greg
It works in Safari. This captcha is actually pretty easy to read.

Thanks for all your hard work Bets...
It's appreciated.
Thanks, Steve
Live and learn, right? I should have activated the captcha feature earlier and we wouldn't have this problem. Sigh.

If only.
If only there was a "captcha" system that prevented Libertarians from registering. THEN we'd be talking.
