Fantastic Forum - Feb. 25 at RBC Center

I just received this in email, and though I'd pass it on here. The focus of this forum will be candidates for governor (Democratic and Republican) and Lt. Governor (Democratic) focusing on issues of relevance to people with developmental disabilities, mental health issues, and "sas" issues, which I am assuming are substance abuse issues, but it's not my field, so I'm sure Gordon can correct me if I'm wrong. Anyhow - the really cool thing about this is that we've been asking for these issues to be addressed, and now a whole day will be spent addressing them. Another cool thing - I have that day off. So I'm going, and will either live blog, or write and post later. Anyone care to join me for all or part of the day?

Please see attached information on the Forum sponsored by the Coalition. Each candidate will have 40 mins. to respond to a series of questions of relevence to people with dd/mh/and/or sas issues. Same flyer is cut/pasted below. Please spread the word.

I wish I could make it.

It's great news that all these folks are going to spend the day learning and strategizing on how to address the mental health crisis in North Carolina. The bad news is there's no way I can make it. Durn mental health providers having to provide mental health services and all.

Who's going? I'm happy to send along some germane questions that might not get asked otherwise. Let me know.

I'm going, Gordon.

That day is my birthday, and I'm such political geek that I can't think of a better way to spend the day than listening to candidates talk all day. I'd love to have some intelligent questions to ask. Email me or post them here. Thanks.

How much does this cost?

We have a Hellish situation outside of the big towns for mental health services. My wife, an Ob/Gyn, takes care of pregnant bipolars off their meds for pregnancy. There is no in town psychiatrist. We have social workers who don't have a clue about how to deal with tough cases like pregnant bipolars.

I would be interested in going, but I don't like questions on cards one little bit. It stifles communication.

As far as I can tell, it's free. I will find out.

I don't like questions on cards either - but at least there's some chance to ask.

And Helms begat Reagan...

Arguably, Ronald Reagan's Helms enabled win in the 1976 NC primary was all the encouragement he needed to try again in 1980, setting the stage for the Reagan Revolution and synergistic escapades like this one...

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
