Farewell to Francis

I just got an email from the fearless leader of the North Carolina chapter of Americans for Prosperity. Francis Deluca, who has accomplished next to nothing that I can see, has decided to go find "another challenge." Maybe he's looking for something a little easier than the selling of Puppetshow lies and snake-oil.

Folks,

It has been a great experience to head up AFPNC - but the time has come for me to find another challenge. my last day as State Director will be August 3, 2007.

I feel good about what we have accomplished and I am especially proud of the people and chapters we have added that will put AFPNC in an even better position to positively influence policy and policy debates in the future. I also feel good that Dallas Woodhouse and Chris Farr will continue to grow AFPNC and help activists become a positive influence pursuing the conservative agenda and in improving government at all levels.

"Improving government at all levels????" Holy hypocrisy, Francis, you've got to be kidding. The so-called "conservative agenda" has one mission and mission only: to crush government by cutting off the tax revenues that fund it.

I have not decided what I will be doing next, so here is my email for the interim: fxdeluca@gmail.com. I figured since North Carolina gave Google so much tax money I might as well get something for the tax money we are spending - an email account. You can also reach me at my home: 919-XXX-XXXX.

I look forward to continuing to work to make North Carolina a better place and to keeping in touch with all the great people I have been working with over the last year plus.

Warmest,

Francis

“To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.” - Thomas Jefferson

I'm sure Colonel Francis is a great guy in somebody's eyes, but from where I sit, he's just another Republican obstructionist. He's had a career working for the gummint, and now you and I are paying for his retirement. Which brings to mind the quotation Francis uses at the end of all his emails. It pisses me off that some of my tax dollars go to pay for a guy who's spending all his time trying to destroy the common good here in North Carolina.

Just sayin'.

PS Dallas Woodho chimes in at the Dome with this:

We at Americans for Prosperity-North Carolina are sad to see the Colonel leave, but we have won a few battles under his leadership:

We helped give hundreds of parents and children options in the Wake County School System after a Wake County Judge declared a student assignment plan in Wake County illegal – AFP-NC lead by Francis actively aided WakeCares who initiated the lawsuit. AFP-NC also contributed funds

We exposed a “Confidential” legislative memo that detailed spending plans including wasteful pork barrel spending. Much of the pork barrel spending was later deleted from the budget. (Drag racing museum was one thing we helped kill)

We Participated in the coalition that defeated a statewide private business smoking ban

Francis was the first in the state to call for a pension forfeiture bill for legislators and public officials who are convicted of crimes relating to their office. This was done in response to the Speaker of the North Carolina House pleading guilty of accepting bribes. The bill has passed and will become law.

Oh boy. So much to be proud of.

Pope Want Ads!

I don't know what I am going to be doing after leaving in early August after a wonderful conservative agenda that I personally push though against all liberal and communist odds. If you good republicans have anything for me. Please contact me as I am ready to do battle with Hillary with both guns blazing as my mission in life like George Bush.* paraphasing Lt Col Francis X Pope USMC

Francis! I have just review your outstanding resume and your work with Art Pope. I have found you a new and exciting adventure in life with your brilliant military conservative background,.You have been assigned to the first wave of Haliburton employees who will be soon hitting the beaches in Iran as backup short order cooks for our Special forces units.

Good luck on your new mission and be sure to take a course on how to boil hot Bush neo-con dogs.

ps.....You can pick up your one-way ticket to Iran at Raleigh's Trailways bus station.

Do they count Touchy Joe Boylan as one of their accomplishments?

I feel good about what we have accomplished

All that Pope-y, Republican money that got spent on hair oil, I mean snake-oil, I mean the Boylan campaign, and it seems it was wasted on Uncle Creepy.

Word around town now is that the rumors are well-founded; some folks knew about it since May, but didn't have proof and didn't want to carry tales.

Not really, -A-

I'm sure Colonel Francis is a great guy in somebody's eyes...

Having special insight on this, I'll tell you all a little bedtime story...

Once upon a lifetime, Little Tommy Brock was a Marine in a reserve unit. This was a special (as in "education", not as in "forces") unit as it had more senior reserve officers than should be allowed by law (at one point, the unit had 43 Lieutenant Colonels O-5 and 25 Colonels O-6). Little Francis was one of'em. And, like most of the officers, he sat around during the drill weekends (1 weekend a month, dontcha know) readin' newspapers, balancin' checkbooks, and other various forms of ass-hatery (usually making the enlisted kids do stupid stuff).

And he got paid for that nonsense, too.

Hoo-frackin'-rah.

What have YOU done today to elect a Democrat?

Ha!

This is probably why he got shit-canned by the AFP wackos, too.

Just wanted to let you know

Just wanted to let you know that the work of Americans for Prosperity-North Carolina will continue. We will continue to be dedicated to limited government and free markets. Francis has served us well and has left us in good shape to fight for idividual economic freedom.

Blue South's picture

oh thank god

For a second there I thought we might actually be able to get some good public policy proposed.

"Keep the Faith"

Dallas

In all seriousness . . .

Not a single person I know is in favor of unlimited government. Nor does anyone I know reject capitalism out of hand. It is always a matter of where to draw the line.

You draw the line to include funding for our growing police state. You seem to support public funding for education, but you appear draw the line to exclude pre-K children. You draw the line to exclude health care. You seem happy to subsidize highway construction but have a problem with public parks. You seem totally supportive of a tax system that gives enormous subsidies to drug companies, you seem to support building more prisons.

Why did you get involved in the smoking issue? That has nothing to do with economic freedom.

Just stay the hell out of Moore County

We've seen first hand what happens when folks like you stick your noses into places that aren't yours. Now we're stuck being represented by a do nothing Uncle Creepy bent on destroying the ability of towns to provide services and counties to provide the infrastructure to support massive growth.

Thanks, pal. Go do your peddle your papers in your own backyard.

Boylan=Tool

do nothing Uncle Creepy bent on destroying the ability of towns to provide services and counties to provide the infrastructure to support massive growth.

Here's my take on him:

1) Just about all he(Boylan) has attempted to do since being sworn in has been to vote/act to reward those he owes something to. THis would include the Pope machine as well as groups like the residents of Pinewild, who would destroy NC annexation laws just to keep from paying taxes in Pinehurst.

2) He really seems to have no clue about how counties and municipalities work or what they do. His stupid-ass response to the subject of alternative revenue sources is to suggest that all these millions(or billions) in infrastructure needs can be covered by making local governments less wasteful and by sharing some services. This idiotic response is almost so shallow it doesn't even deserve a response. I will anyway. Police, fire, sanitation, education, roads and Medicare(in the case of counties) take up the overwhelming share of local funds. There is very little waste or pork in most situations unless you consider Medicare mandates or fire trucks "pork.". Moore County Schools is asking for over $150 million just for school construction and rennovation not to mention the costs of our wastewater plant expansion and transportation needs. Oh yeah, we need a new jail too. Boylan is suggesting local governments try to get better contracts on office supplies or by sharing staff. I'm sorry, but you could fire every government administrator in the whole county and stop buying office supplies and police cars not put a dent in covering our infrastructure needs. These are major needs costing big money and Boylan continues to give idiotic recommendations apparently from some "Conservativism for Dummies" playbook.

Boylan should just wait until the transfer tax option does not pass and all of the sudden Moore County and its municipalities have to crank up property taxes by 25-50% on the well-off, heavily voting, retireees here who love the low property taxes. For sure, the fingers will be pointing a people like him and his benefactors come election day.

I think Uncle Creepy has more immediate problems

than the transfer tax option.

But you're absolutely correct. The money has to come from somewhere. Children have to go to school somewhere - and the company his wife works for wants to build them and lease back to Moore County. Interesting, huh?

Only a Pope fascist can screw up a Real " Free" Market

We will continue to be dedicated to limited government and free markets.* Dallashtwoodhouse

Sure you will! Like supporting every damn bush-cheney fascist free market that does not exist today. When you phony conservative republicans start acting like Ron Paul and Lew Rockwell , than you might be trusted with " Real" Free markets in the market place of ideas and liberty. Screw your Police state market conservative republican monopolyist fascist ideas.

Thomas Brock

Special insight is not always 20/20. TB I remember you and if you recall I only rarely drilled on weekends as I drilled with the MEF G-3 during the normal work week.

Anglico, thanks for the

Anglico, thanks for the question on the smoking ban. This was a key issue that I personally worked on. It is very much a free market issue. Any restaurant in North Carolina is free to be smoke free today. It seems to me that everyday more places are becoming smoke free based on customer demands. Every person has the right not to eat some place if they do not like the smoking policy. The person that owns the restaurant is the person who should decide. You and I can disagree and can make our consumer choices based on our own needs.

It really is an issue to me about private property rights. I also worry about the nanny state always trying to "protect" us. Adults in a free socity must be free to do somethings others would disagree with.

Partly a property rights issue

But it is also about workplace health/safety. Why does the "private property rights" crowd almost never acknowledge the employee health aspect of the issue?

If a smoking ban

is a "property rights" issue, maybe health inspections of restaurants should be banned, too. After all, those picky health inspectors stick their noses into other people's business and make them keep the flies out. People are free to choose whether or not to go to a restaurant that has flies. I guess the guvmint shouldn't meddle into how clean people keep their restaurants, either...

Too close to the truth

The logical extension of free market "wisdom" takes you right there. Public health is public health is public health.

Since When is Campbell Brown My Hero?

Trying to get a straight answer out of McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds.

BTW: I'm glad that Talking Points Memo posted this excerpt on Youtube, but since when does TiVo'ing something allow you to brand it with your logo? That's the Wild West...
