Our Growing Majority

This year we mark a change at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue when Barack Obama takes back the White House. But winning in November is not important if we don't grow in the Senate to prevent filibusters and give President Obama more allies in the Senate. 33 Class II Senators are up for reelection (35 if you include the special elections in Wyoming and Mississippi) and 2/3 of them are held by Republicans. They are truly on the offensive, and very few will make it back to Capitol Hill in my prediction.

Vatican money

Rumor has it that the knight of the right, Art Pope, is gearing up his electioneering machine to target a small handful of NC House districts. Reliable sources say he intends to fund a big city consultant who would work on defeating three candidates for state House: Rep. Alice Bordsen, Rep. Graham Underhill, and Rep. Dickson.

We saw Pope crank his machine into action two years ago to unseat arch-rival Richard Morgan, so it's a safe bet that's what's happening again.

Creationism and the North Carolina Family Policy Council

I'm guessing The Family Fraudsters here in North Carolina are all atwitter today over a landmark ruling in California on the "science" of creationism.

Rejecting claims of religious discrimination and stifling of free expression, U.S. District Judge James Otero of Los Angeles said UC's review committees cited legitimate reasons for rejecting the texts - not because they contained religious viewpoints, but because they omitted important topics in science and history and failed to teach critical thinking.
