Lindy Brown Responds on Educating Wake County (Even the Hispanics)

A couple of days ago, I posted about Phil Jeffreys not wanting to spend money on education because he felt it all went to illegal Hispanics. I sent the post to his opponent in the Wake County Commissioner Race, Lindy Brown. Here is her response to me (via e-mail):

As your County Commissioner, I will advocate for adequate funding to build new and expand existing schools in Wake County. This year alone, Wake County School System had to provide education to seven thousand + new students. We are mandated by our federal and state governments to provide equal educational opportunities to all children.

Prosecutors May File Charges Against Holloman

The State Board of Elections has asked prosecutors in Raleigh to consider charges against North Carolina state Senator Robert Holloman (D-Hertford) for campaign finance violations.

The Board alleges that Sen. Holloman failed to report over $23,000 in campaign contributions since 2002. Senator Holloman told News 14,

"My reports may have some errors and mistakes," Holloman said. "But I'm going to tell you all today -- I'm looking at you with a straight face -- Robert Holloman has nothing to hide. I'm not trying to hide anything."

More slime below the fold

Little Hoods

John Hood and I both went to the UNC School of Journalism at Chapel Hill. I look back and see the J-School as a formative experience that shaped my ability to think critically and write a decent sentence. John looks back and sees "an approximation" of college . . . a liberal bastion of political correctness worthy of disdain because faculty members don't buy his particular brand of bullshit.

I read John Hood's particular brand of bullshit often enough to say this: It's no wonder most the faculty thinks he's a nutcase. Like the king at most conservative think tanks, he's not interested in thinking at all, but rather in proving he's right about whatever he happens to believe at the time.

Edwards: OAC Blog

I missed this yesterday, but this is a great take on harnessing the internet and blogs, and a BlueNC reader's view on the fact that Edwards is not harnessing efficiently.

John Edwards has retooled his One America Committee blog, but it still seems as though he doesn't get it. Despite what often comes across as sincerity in his public speaking, this blog comes across as forgivingly hokey at best, and painfully contrived at worst. For example, in describing the new structure of the site, Joe (the administrator, perhaps) explains that he would call the operation a "blogocrasy."

The best government money can buy...

Ever write a letter to Senator Liddy Dole about something you felt was important? Say, oh like, enforcing immigration laws, revising our ponderous tax code, campaign finance reform, health care, or the war in Iraq? Remember getting her form letter reply telling you what a privilege it is to serve you and how important your thoughts are? Remember nothing ever happening, even though you knew thousands of people like you are similarly concerned? Remember thinking you'd probably get the same reply if you wrote to her about the 8000 lb. armadillo living in your basement? Remember wondering what it takes to get real attention?

We're Official!

Drinking Liberally Chapel Hill lives! We're on the web here, but more importantly, you can sign up for the low-volume high-quality mailing list here. There's also a discussion forum here.

What does this mean? For those of us around Chapel Hill, it means that there are two nights a month when you can go out and have a beer with the best kind of folks. We'll be kicking off on Thursday the 16th at Tyler's Taproom in Carrboro (map).

Be ye advised: Drinking Liberally is its own thing, and not affiliated with or presented by BlueNC.

Now go join that mailing list!

It's hard out here for pimp . . .

It's hard out here for a pimp, unless you happen to be part of the NCGOP, in which case pimping comes as naturally as, ummmm, lying and scamming? Go get the story directly if you have the stomach for it.

Just think, for only $150 you can get three (count 'em) three real books signed by America's most embarrassing senators! First is Liddy Dole, the con-lady who tried to extort money from Southern Dem. Then there's Bob "Viagra" Dole, pimpmeister for the foreign takeover of US ports. And last and very least, good old Jesse Helms. He almost seems like a decent guy when you compare him to the crooks running the Senate these days.
