Greedy little frackers

Maybe it's just us (we're often accused of being less than observant), but in the whirlwind of fracking news, we initially missed the latest round of corporate welfare for frackers.

But it turns out that North Carolina's Republican leaders are now seeking taxpayer-financed "corporate welfare" for the oil and gas industry -- even though the five biggest drilling companies alone hauled in $93 billion in profits last year. As The News & Observer of Raleigh reports:

Right wing idiocy reaches tipping point, becomes the entire Republican party

Anyone observing politics these days will have noticed the razor sharp edge of debate around the release of Bowe Bergdahl. I believe this debate is leading to a tipping point about the insanity of the radical right in general, and the Republican party in particular. With madness going mainstream, average people are shaking their heads and wondering, WTF is going on here?

Only two months ago, Republican leaders were singing the praises of Bergdahl, rightly calling for action to get him released. But now, in the throes of a smear campaign that rivals the swiftboating of John Kerry, these same leaders are accusing Bergdahl of desertion, treason, and worse. Some are even calling for Obama's impeachment because of his handling of Bergdahl's release.

North Carolina Democratic Party Convention News

After a quick three hour drive, we arrived in Raleigh and easily found parking despite the hysteria on Facebook from a few in the party warning us that a PREVIOUS employee had planned the convention LAST FALL and there were four high school graduation ceremonies at the convention center that would make parking difficult. I'm sure some who arrived after 11:00 a.m. had a harder time finding parking, however there were entire sections of the parking deck empty when we pulled up.

The convention hall is very organized and they are now moving people forward because the number of attendees does not match the number who RSVP'd for the convention. That happens at an event this large. It is a nice facility...so...go Raleigh.

Voller just recognized a gentleman who was part of D-Day to a standing ovation.

GOP healthcare: cut legitimate services while funding anti-abortion "clinics"

To seem rather than to be:

The North Carolina legislature is once again deceiving the public. While cutting appropriations for essential social programs and services, the recently released Senate budget proposal includes an increase in funding for the Carolina Pregnancy Care Fellowship. This anti-abortion organization sustains more than half of North Carolina’s so-called crisis pregnancy centers.

North Carolina currently has more than 120 CPCs. These centers masquerade as medical facilities, with fancy ultrasound machines and staff members wearing scrubs and lab coats. Yet the vast majority of these centers employ no trained medical professionals. Their goal is ideological, not medical: to convince women not to terminate their pregnancies and to dissuade them from using birth control.

This story is just screaming for a Sixty Minutes-style exposé, with hidden cameras and a battery of basic medical questions, just to show the level of deceit and incompetence. It's the least our society should be prepared to do as a safeguard for women.

Queen Puppet and her "brilliance"

... are truly too much to behold.

By now we all know that North Carolina is another $60,000,000.00 in the hole because of Wos and the "DHHS Plan." As outlined in an editorial from the Charlotte Observer, the math seems simple; or does it?

Simply put, according to the editorial, here’s how the plan would work:

North Carolina would tax 10 managed-care organizations that provide behavioral health services to mentally ill or developmentally disabled Medicaid recipients. Those “assessments” would bring in $90 million for the state and allow it to draw down an additional $60 million in matching federal funds. The state would then give the $90 million back to the managed-care organizations and pocket the $60 million from the feds. Budget woes, solved.
