Georgia
As you know, GOP Senator Saxby Chambliss failed to defeat state lawmaker Jim Martin in Georgia's Senate race.
Early voting in the runoff election begins this coming Monday, and election day itself is December 2nd.
The increasingly desperate GOP are redoubling their efforts to defame a popular Georgia Democrat. Taking a page out of Elizabeth Dole's godless playbook, Chambliss is accusing Martin of being in favor of child prostitution:
Chambliss isn't know for his subtlety. He compared triple amputee war vet Max Cleland to Osama Bin Laden. He told the nation that his campaign was about "our folks" defeating minority voters ("the other folks"). He said he shouldn't have to compete in a runoff election because of a "bum knee."
But Chambliss knows that Martin is an advocate for children. Chambliss knows that Martin's own daughter was kidnapped at the age of eight, and that, while she was returned safe, that terrifying experience must make Martin particularly sensitive to the need to protect children from danger.
For Chambliss to create a video of a child prostitute and announce that Martin condones child abuse is yet a new low.
Sen. Elizabeth Dole's respect for people of faith was indicated by her willingness to use God to sling mud against Kay Hagan. Chambliss's commitment to the welfare of children is likewise illustrated. Should we even bother checking to see if Chambliss voted for health care for children? Chambliss voted against health care for children.
While John McCain has previously described Chambliss as "disgraceful" and "reprehensible," he is now leaping to his defense. Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney are also being deployed to back up the flailing campaign.
Fortunately, Chambliss is almost out the door. Georgia's conservative voters are increasingly dissatified with a party that plays them for chumps while slandering honest men, and needless to say, "other" voters are energized by the progress we've made.
The runoff election will almost certainly have low turnout. Volunteer GOTV efforts will decide this election - the Senate seat belongs to the grassroots effort that wants it more.
If you can drive down to Georgia for a weekend or longer, I'm sure they'd love to have you. I believe that they have housing etc available. Click here to volunteer.

This could turn into one of the most important races since...since....Nov 4, 2008! :)
That's awful. I suppose since that kind of politics worked for him before, he'll try it again. But the thing is - the country is different. We should do everything we can to help Martin win.
play dead?

I thought this was a good way of describing this race. Is the Democratic party going to continue to "play dead" in Georgia? Or will we take on the admittedly significant headwind?

Great NYT Article
The young woman in the first paragraph of that article is one of the FO's I've been working with. There are so many dedicated people from al over the place down here, hell bent on keeping people powered politics alive here in GA. Hopefully we all head back to our home states when this is over and keep it up.

Amazing
This is an amazing effort that people are putting in. I got in to Atlanta late last night, and am already working. President Clinton is showing up Wed, which is exciting.
But people need to get their you know whats down here, they need to get on the phone, and do some work. This race could really mean things like Health Care and the Employee Free Choice Act don't die a cold death in the Senate.
"Keep the Faith"
