Global Warming, Climate Change, The Next Ice Age.....Whatever
Yesterday while holding my nose and taking a dip in the scum pool at Ann Coulter(giest's - hat tip to A) website, I saw this rant that she wrote that has been picked up and spread by her followers. LET THEM EAT TOFU! A few weeks ago in our local newspaper, someone wrote a lte that there was no Global Warming, it's just a liberal scare tactic being promoted by Al Gore. So I wrote this article and posted it on my blog. This morning's cartoon by Stormbear and the following comments helped make my decision to post it here.
The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency has a whole section dedicated to Climate Change. Under “State of Knowledge” they have three categories; What’s Known/What’s Likely/What’s Not Certain. (In Summary)
“What’s Known” is that all of us have been increasing the greenhouse gases since the beginning of time. We do it by breathing, burning wood, garbage and fossil fuels. And that the world temperature increased in the 20th century because of greenhouse gases.
“What’s Likely” comes from analysis by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. This is not a covert group from Tennessee; these are world-renowned scientist on this panel. Their research “indicates but doesn’t prove” that in the future the rain and storm patterns will change, temperatures will rise and with that the sea level.
I ask, on the slightest chance that such catastrophic occurrences could happen, why not make changes sooner than later. Why not look for alternate sources of energy? We already see the result of what oil rich mideastern countries can have on our economy.
“What’s Not Certain” is that they’re not sure how quickly these changes will come.
…important scientific questions remain about how much warming will occur, how fast it will occur, and how the warming will affect the rest of the climate system...
A frightening pattern that they recommend studying is
Abrupt Climate Change, [this] should not be confused with climate changes that occur slowly or individual extreme events that affect relatively small areas. Abrupt climate change refers to sudden (on the order of a decade), large changes in some major component of the climate system, with rapid, widespread effects.”

I fear we are already screwed
And the past six years of Idiocy at the Top have been the final nail in our collective coffin.
The Myans predicted that in 2012
The World Will Change As We Know It

Solid stuff here, Momo
My reply to all of the folks around me (very conservative area, this) who question global warming, climate change, etc:
Ah,I see, so you're pro-pollution?
Good One Inter, I'll remember that
The Greeders never cease to amaze me with their "follow our leader" mentality. A lot of these folks were the hippies in the 60's and 70's and their parents were the ones then saying, "America, right or wrong." You'd think that they would know better by now. I guess the saying, "some people never learn" is true.

Good point, Inter
Their whole argument seems to be, "We don't want to do anything about global warming because it might be wrong. It would be worse to do the wrong thing than to do nothing." I might as well talk to a brick wall when I say we're not proposing to do something, so much as to stop doing something - dumping tons of pollutants into the environment can't be good, even if you don't believe in global warming.
Your response is simple and straightforward, they might get it. Nah, for the most part they are pretending not to understand.
You should have seen....
the right-wing love-fest that was Legislative Week in Review this weekend. They had the requisite JLF puppet and an interviewer who clearly didn't believe in Global Warming, and the take home message, seriously, was
We can't worry about global climate change if it might hurt the economy.
That's Crazy
Without the planet - there is no economy
