Grier's out. No, wait. he's in. No wait . . .
That's right. You'll have to wait.
Today, two NC blogs that traffic most in rumors (The Soup and NCSPIN) were both definitive in their stories that Grier Martin is running - and that he is not running.
The Soup, which had a jump on the Kay Hagan announcement, says their sources say Grier says he's not running. NCSPIN, on the other hand, had this to say (by email):
Martin will run
We hear from reliable sources that Representative Grier Martin (D-Wake) will challenge Senator Elizabeth Dole for the 2008 U.S. Senate. The two-term legislator is known to have political ambition, but was hesitant when Senator Kay Hagan was also considering the Democratic nomination. When Hagan (D-Guilford) announced earlier this week she wouldn’t run, there was little reason for Martin to stay out. We are told he has a two-week obligation for active duty with the National Guard, but will announce his campaign shortly after returning.
Representative Martin himself says (also via email) that neither posting has any basis.
I wonder if it's satisfying to make up crap and give yourself the illusion of legitimacy by saying "we are told" and "sources are telling us". Hmmmm. Now that I think of it, that's how the mainstream media have operated for years.

Screw this, Draft Marshall Adame for NC Senate.
I've had enough, waited long enough. Marshall might not have the connections, but he's got the right positions and the right resume to run this race. Forget Walter Jones, aim higher.

back off robert
Grier didn't put out any stories. i talked to him today. he's taking his time. you can't rush it.

Sure I can.
Whether you like it or not, I can be pissed that NC has taken this long to find a candidate. A candidate who isn't raising money, isn't building an organization, isn't visiting battleground counties, etc.

were talking with a friend of mine, and I came in the back door as they were leaving; my friend couldn't tell me anything one way or another.
But I'm sure The Soup is going to go 2 for 2.

Are you sure of that because of the Jim Neal announcement?
or do you have other reasons?

There are exactly 2 people
who "know" what this decision will be. Those 2 people are Grier and his wife. And I think that if they knew what the decision was we would have a public answer from him, and not guesses from some rumor rag.
"Keep the Faith"
Exactly
Neither NC Spin nor Soup have any idea what they are talking about, and if the "source" they cite is saying what they say the source said, then that source has no idea what he or she is talking about.
Grier and Louise will make the decision. Unlike others, I'm not inclined to force them to make the decision before they want to.
I do know that Senator Hagan would have been a fine candidate, but if Grier were inclined to get in, her presence in the race wouldn't have made a difference. Nor will Neal's.
If he runs, money will not be a problem. I'm set to raise for him, as I know all of you are.

Go Grier Go!
I've been following this thread for awhile... I hope Grier runs. Local folks I respect give him cred and his Dad is no slouch (and would be an asset on the campaign trail).
I know the timing is tough but to provide a nice, stark contrast to Dole's policies it would probably be best to declare prior to leaving on his next duty op ("walking the talk" as opposed to just talking).

What have YOU done today to elect a Democrat?
Three things we must figure out:
1. Is Jim Neal for real? Kirk we need you.
2. Should Marshall run?
3. WTF doesn't anyone want to take on Liddy Dole?

He's for real.
I just talked to him. He's absolutely for real.
It's hard to explain how a five-minute conversation can get a cynical guy like me excited, but I promise, it did. You're going to get excited too.
