Gubernatorial Debate: Bev Perdue vs. Pac McTory
The debate will be simulcast starting at 7:00 tonight on WMYT in Charlotte and on WFMY in Greensboro/High Point. It's on WRAL in the Triangle. And also on WUNC-FM.
You can submit your own questions here.
Look for fireworks on vouchers, as the Pacman tries to justify undermining public education to fund for-profit schools.

For those who missed it
McCrory was his whiny, smarmy self. He said that the guy who lays floors in his house makes more money than he does. And all he talked about what demanding this and demanding that, as though "demands" without power to do anything about them actually mean anything. He was, in fact, the arrogant jerk people who know him say he is.
Perdue was careful and prepared. She didn't knock any balls out of the park, but she didn't need to.
The Pacman has a big deficit in the polls. He didn't make up that ground tonight. All he did was whine, which is pretty much what you could expect from him and Duke Energy in the governor's office.

Sigh
The Governor's race--as it has been for the entirety of my voting "career"--is a choice between bad and God awful.

It's so sad.
North Carolina is a great state and deserves a great leader. I still think Richard Moore would have been great.

Perdue will do fine.
She's on top of the issues and knows how to get things done. Plus she's learned to listen and take good advice ... which is something neither Moore nor McCrory have going for them. We don't need a testosterone-filled hothead running the show.
Is she perfect? Of course not. She wouldn't be running for governor if she were. But she's light years ahead of the Pacman and she'll do a good job. The fact is, she's about as progressive as you can be and still get elected in North Carolina.

3 against 1 tag team
At least it seemed that way early on. I'm not sure who the female reporter was, but she lit into Perdue a few times. They even attacked Bev on the voucher issue, when McCrory is the one who wants to implement the damn thing.
Somebody tell me again who owns WRAL?
Jim Goodman
I thought the reporter was WAY out of line. I wish someone would do a highlights reel showing her arguing with Perdue. She should be fired.

Did you catch that one part
where she cut Bev off in mid-sentence with a sarcastic, "Yeah, you've already said that."
But when McCrory whines, "But you said I was real dangerous!" about fifteen frickin' times, not a peep. ;/

Remedial Debating 101
The moderators need to take Remedial Debating 101. Both showed bias against Bev Perdue. Pam Salisbury was extremely rude and her tactics consisted of throwing up straw men to Perdue. Of course resorting to straw men arguments shows lack of good reasoning and sloppy critical thinking skills. What were these two hoping to accomplish? I suspect they were more concerned with inflaming the mob on WRAL's odi profanum vulgus fueled train wreck, GoLo. Let's face it. Combining the IQs of the majority of posters on GoLo would only yield a double digit figure.
And let me roast McCrory in just a few words so I will not work myself up into a stroke this morning...
McCrory had no logic at all in the debate. When faced with a question he had obviously not rehearsed, his deer in the headlights look gave way to red herrings. "Elite! Elite!" He kept bleating this until I thought he would start "bahh"-ing like a sheep. His blue collar voter vocational eduction first brainstorm made me sick at my stomach. I'm sure this was a desperate ploy to grab the votes of Joe Sixpack day laborers. It was also a sickening display of the GOP's anti-intellectual mantra. Reading between the lines McCrory is saying, "Let's keep people dumb so dimbulbs like me can be voted into office."

I'm not really sure,
but it seemed like some of the questions they peppered bev with were designed to set up strawmen for Pat to knock down.
On the voucher issue, Pam kept hammering away asking where the 900 million figure came from in the ad, even after Perdue talked about current private schools' enrollment, what's happened in other states, if you need more specifics I can get them for you, etc.
The hammering continued, and I think Pam inserted the question (from out of the blue), "So that's based on everybody choosing the vouchers?" or something along those lines. Setting up McCrory for the following (paraphrased):
"I have never said that every student in the state would get vouchers!"
Which, like all his other nonsensical, out-of-context, off-topic ranting, went unchallenged by the moderators.

Is...well, rude.

Betsy, problem with Opera.
Love the new editing tool by the way. Okay, now to the debate. Errr....couldn't load the site and Binker could only twitter so much. Is it in repeats?

Only caught the part they were talking about off-shore
drilling. Just kept asking myself why Perdue is defending any position against off-shore drilling. Why didn't she turn that all around with the truth about drilling and that in the time it would take to get a rig up and running that we could have invested in renewables or alternatives. I was listening to it on the radio and it sounded like Pam Salsby was one of the narrators(?) who kept interrupting Perdue. McWhiner came across the radio along with Salsby as very rude. We should all write to WRAL about how unprofessional it was and how obvious they were in their McWhiner support. (It probably wouldn't hurt to send copies of these letters to your local newspaper too.)

And email flew...
I have. I doubt it will be read. There's always a chance Pam and I will get stuck in the same queue together at Harris Teeter.

You missed the part where he says the guy doing his floors
makes more money than the mayor does.
Here's what I heard him say:
Demand. Demand. Demand. Elite. Elite. Elite. Status quo. Status quo. Demand. Demand.
What a jerk.

I had to laugh
I had to laugh at his response to the art question. The reference to the amount of art oriented small businesses in this area (the Triangle) flew right over his head. One could almost hear the "whoosh!"

Question 8 is a joke.
Question 8: How will you keep jobs in N.C, How will you do it? Pat McCory answer was Tax Incentives. I want to tell you about these Tax Incentives. In Moore County we had a company who moved here and stayed about a year and when they got their Tax Incentives of 100,000 dollars within one week they closed up shop and left taxpayers in Moore County footing the bill.Sorry,But i say NO MORE PAY OUTS !
