HAMPTON DELLINGER wins DURHAM COMMITTEE endorsement

Hampton Dellinger has just been endorsed by the most powerful African American group in the state: the Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People.

Please find the press release for this key endorsement below

The backing of the Durham Committee gives Dellinger a clean sweep of the African American endorsing groups so far, which include the Black Political Caucus of Charlotte-Mecklenburg, the RWCA in Raleigh and the Black Leadership Roundtable of High Point.

I'd say that is very impressive and shows how people feel about Hampton's dedication to fighting discrimination and evening the playing field. Hampton has refused to ignore the racial inequalities that exist in our state. It may not be politically popular to talk about them sometimes, but he has consistently been out front on the issues, on everything from compensating the victims of forced sterilization to defending affirmative action.

Dellinger's other key endorsements include:

NARAL Pro-choice North Carolina

NC AFL-CIO

NC Communication Workers of America

NC United Transportation Workers of America

NC Chapter of the Teachers Federation of America

Dellinger is a progressive Democrat, and he's not afraid to speak out on the issues that matter most (Education, the treatment of senior citizens, racial inequality, the environment, workers in North Carolina, and healthcare.)

DURHAM COMMITTEE ON THE AFFAIRS OF BLACK PEOPLE ENDORSES DELLINGER

(DURHAM, 4/12/08) Hampton Dellinger continued to rack up endorsements from major African-American groups, today adding the Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People to his growing list of supporters. Dellinger previously has been endorsed by the Black Political Caucus of Charlotte-Mecklenburg, the Raleigh Wake Citizens Association (RWCA), and the Black Leadership Roundtable of High Point, giving him a clean sweep of the major African-American political groups that have weighed in on the race thus far.

Independent Weekly has said that the Durham Committee is “arguably the most powerful black political organization in the region,” (Independent Weekly, 7/28/04). Last fall, UNC Charlotte Professor Ted Arrington said that the Durham Committee, the RWCA, and the Black Political Caucus of Charlotte were part of a group of organizations that could make a difference in May’s primaries because they have a good reputation in the black community and they work hard to inform voters (News & Observer Under the Dome Blog, 11/28/07).

“I am honored to have the backing of the Durham Committee, and I look forward to working with this organziation and others as Lieutenant Governor to achieve greater economic and social justice across North Carolina,” Dellinger said.

Dellinger, who was a Deputy Attorney General and the Governor’s Chief Legal Counsel, has also been endorsed by the North Carolina State AFL-CIO, the state chapters of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) and the United Transportation Union (UTU), NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina, the Durham People’s Alliance, and the Police Benevolent Association (PBA). He recently released a statewide radio ad featuring jazz star Branford Marsalis, a statewide mailing featuring historian and civil rights legend Dr. John Hope Franklin, and his first t.v. ad.

Given that Obama will be the nominee...

...these endorsements become all the more impressive. African-American turnout will be high, and Dellinger will win that. Not to mention workers, the pro-choice crowd, etc. You have to take endorsements for what they're worth, but something's afoot when a candidate wins a host of big ones, like Dellinger has.

Nice analysis

Succinct and true. But Hampton's not taking anything for granted. He is is working tirelessly to reach out to all voters across the state to spread his message that the status quo is not good enough. It's not what we deserve from our elected officials.

Congratulations for another endorsement.

I want to add that

I deeply admire the way Dan has run his campaign and the fine manner in which most of his supporters have conducted themselves.

I'm looking forward to this primary concluding, though. However it winds up, it should be a bit of a burden lifted of all of us :) I think people are ready to go after the Republico-fascists full bore. Think we're always ready for that ;)
