Is AMEX in Dire Straights?

Is there a full moon? Because the crazies are coming out of the woodwork!

Last year our company spent almost $1 million with American Express, an average of over $81,000.00 per month. We paid the full balance every month - on time. Last week a representative from American Express called our controller to thank us for our spending last year. This week, with no warning, we have been cut-off after spending only $39,000.00.

When our VP of Operations was denied a charge after booking flights for many managers to attend a conference, he called the accounting department to find out why. We immediately called AMEX to resolve whatever problem so that our business could continue operating normally. What they told us was distubing....

After living on the hold line for over an hour, they agreed to a compromise, we were to pay the current balance and they were to do nothing. When we picked ourselves up off the floor we asked what was going on. Why would American Express only want $300,000.00 of our business instead of $1,000,000.00? The answer....THE ECONOMY (STUPID)!. That's right, they are limiting businesses to a smaller spending limit because of the Economy.

Perhaps they didn't hear our illustrious leader when he told us all to stimulate the economy by going shopping. Perhaps they didn't hear him tell us this was how we could support the war. Or, maybe American Express is in bigger trouble than they are willing to admit.

Free Credit in Politics and Business?

Now I know how Max the Dawg feels* momoaizo

True! But the Dog pull a fast one on AMEX. Since the Dog had a Campaign Card with AMEX, he suddenly change the name of the Campaign to the "Clinton for Queen of the Universe"

Mastercard upon hearing of this suddenly issue a campaign card to the Dog in the name " "Clinton for Bitch Queen of the Universe"

Visa upon hearing of this suddenly issue a campaign card to the Dog in the name " " Bill Clinton for King of the Universe"

Universal Payday Lending Corporation upon hearing of this suddenly issue a campaign blank check to the Dog in the name " " Bill Clinton Sucks off the Universe"

Rule 1 in Credit Cards.....Max the suckers out and give it to a good lawyer who will accuse the Credit Card Company of force insanity!

Thank you PD

there were some interesting comments at KOS. Apparently this has been happening to many businesses and individuals. Late in the day, our sales rep called us back and told us that they had this trouble last month when AMEX did this to individuals. They cut back their limits (and I thought with an AMEX there is no limits) but didn't bother telling the sales staff. When they started receiving floods of calls from unhappy customers, they quickly found out. Apparently they started this at the end of 2007.

Unbelievable

Small print might allow them to operate that way, but it doesn't make good business sense if you want to keep your good customers.

Sorry I'm late to the party. You got some great comments over at Kos. Nice work.

Hey You

first time I ever got over 20! Woot!

Tuned in to the debate, was background noise for a while there, but Obama just responded nicely to the "Dems are evil Tax and Spenders".

Look what was in the NYT

on Jan 29th: American Express Profit Falls 10%

American Express had announced plans for a charge on Jan. 10, worrying investors who had thought its wealthier cardholders might be less likely to experience financial pressure as the economy slowed. Lower consumer spending could result in lower card fees.

“We are not immune from further deterioration in the economic and credit environment,” the chief executive, Kenneth I. Chenault, said in a statement. “We believe our focus on the premium sector should help us to weather the current conditions better than many competitors.”

Mr. Chenault said his outlook for 2008 remained “cautious,” with slower earnings growth.
