In fact, I am of the opinion that humans live entirely too long as it is. Our cultural institutions have not evolved anywhere near enough to keep up with our longevity. That's one reason I'm an death-with-dignity activist. The amount of resources our society pours into prolonging lives for a few hours or a few weeks is unconscionable.
(I agree about the gloating comment. Falwell was a hate-filled hypocrite who did enormous damage, but I'm not happy he's dead. I just wish he'd never been born in the first place.)
I was priviledged to be the only person with my father when he died from cancer. He opted for palliative care only when it was clear that nothing would cure it. His death was one of the most sacred moments of my life; I'll never forget it. He was at peace, thanks to the wonderful folks with hospice, he was not in pain, and he was well aware that I was with him, and what was happening. It was good.

Sun Myung Moon gave multi-millions to quite a few of Falwell's cohorts in crime. There won't be a week before there's something just as evil (and just as monied) to carry Moon's hatefulness. To lay the job of rooting out Falwell's hateful and nasty adherents all on G'd seems to be a bit lazy to me. Now, I'm a convinced Friend and do not believe in violence, but I do think it's absolutely necessary to resist and thwart them at every hand; further, to deny those who would destroy the Constitution by infiltrating our government ever to see the light of day again. Thorazine and padded rooms, optional.
If anyone expects me to speak well or even tolerantly of the leader of a group of people who made it their mission to destroy our government and to impose their Moon-soaked sickness on the rest of us, I'm sorry to disappoint you. Falwell's actions have affected me not just as an American, but also as a Christian, a patriot and a veteran. I am an out gay man; generally speaking, I don't regard that as anyone's particular business. I certainly regard that as none of his. I never infringed on his right to live his life the way he did. He has already answered to G'd for that. By the same token, he had no right to tell me that my life, peaceful, loving and wholesome as it is, was something to be reviled.
For a dozen years, my partner and I have had love, peace, respect, and joy on a minute-by-minute basis. (He's still a wuff! to me, too :-) ) Now, if Christ wanted us to live in respect, love and peace and we have it, then WTF was wrong with Falwell and his ilk? Just askin'...
To paraphrase Bette Davis:
You should never say bad things about the dead; you should only say good things. Jerry Falwell is dead.
Good.

and here it is 10:21 PM! Very well Done Storm. How were they received throughout the tubes? Any good comments?
Personally I think that the sympathy for the victims wasn't voiced upon the death of Falwell because most of us have been voicing that sympathy throughout Falwell's hateful reign.
No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

As much as I despised
the Moral Majority and all of its incarnations, I have a difficult time gloating over anyone's death.

Gloating is not the same thing
as being relieved.
True
But this still makes me uncomfortable. I've had too many deaths in my family too close together I guess.

I think we take death entirely too seriously.

Totally agree with death with dignity

I should add that none of my comments are about the cartoons.
I haven't been able to read them - the links aren't working and the print on this page is too small for my rapidly aging eyes.

And I just moved everything to a new server.

That is true.
We have been fighting for the victims all along, I guess we are the only ones.
