Judge Kristin Ruth
I have been woefully negligent in failing to introduce Judge Kristin Ruth here, notwithstanding that I have been working on her campaign for over a year. Jerimee’s post about the down-ballot races finally shamed me into getting it together. Judge Ruth will be on the ballot statewide on May 6 (with a four-way, non-partisan primary). I did post about this race earlier, but I wanted to put out something about Judge Ruth herself.
Judge Ruth has been a district court judge in Raleigh for almost 10 years, and is running for the NC Court of Appeals, a statewide position. These races are on the non-partisan section of your ballot, way way at the bottom or on the other side in some counties.
She is very well-regarded by folks who follow the courts, and is extraordinarily committed to her work. She has the endorsement of the NC Association of Educators, NC Academy of Trial Lawyers, NC AFL-CIO, Durham People’s Alliance, Black Political Caucus of Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People, the Raleigh-Wake Citizens Association, the Simpkins PAC (Greensboro) and Equality NC PAC.
Much of her time in recent years has been spent on working on a “problem-solving court” in the child support enforcement world. In order to break the cycle that results in parents going to jail for failure to pay child support, Judge Ruth focuses on connecting parents with services – employment resources, etc. – to help them find a way to support their kids. So far, it’s been a successful program, and she has been recognized with a Judge of the Year award and is asked to speak around the country about her approach.
Judge Ruth is committed to making the courts work. She wants to serve on the Court of Appeals so she can bring her understanding of the way the trial courts work to the appellate bench. She’s been in the trenches, and understands how important it is for the appellate courts to provide clear, practical, workable opinions that can guide trial judges in applying the law.
She has been campaigning for over a year, so you may have seen her at any number of events. She’ll be at the bash on April 27.

Thanks, Greg
I not only didn't think to add the picture, I would have botched it if I tried.
No problem.
Having met her in person I thought it necessary.
umhmmmm?
:D
Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.
She makes an impression
I met her at Marshall's Raleigh debut.
Not the first time I've heard that
We actually received an email to the campaign, subject line: "Campaign Strategy." The entire content of the email was: "I don't know if this is helpful or not, but you need to know: you are hot!"
To anticipate the next question: no, I don't think it was from Greg.
Judge Ruth is great
I have had a chance to meet Judge Ruth at a few events, and have seen her give probably a dozen speeches and I am very impressed. Judge Ruth has a very busy primary, and yet its a very easy choice for me.
"Keep the Faith"
Thanks, Blue
She likes you, too. :)
Goldie...I'm sending you an email through
your contact information here if you have it listed. I need to send an invitation. It's open to Dem candidates, but I didn't know you were working on this particular campaign, so would like to get a formal email invite to her Honor.

Got it, thanks
Also, you can count in Suzanne Reynolds (Supreme Court candidate) and Judge Linda Stephens (Court of Appeals judge, and your BFF if there's a vegan option).
Greg is taking care of the meatless peoples
...but I'm not aware of the details. Woo Hoo....I've always wanted to get in good with a bunch of judges. :D
Insert measured response here
Not much to be gained except the warm glow of knowing justice is in good hands. :)
So what you're telling me
is that now is NOT the time for me to go looking for trouble? :D
Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.
I suspect
you'd know where to find it. :)
Ha! Yes.....I wouldn't have to look very hard
or for very long. hehe

Judge Ruth
Judge Kristin Ruth lives in my district, right down the road. She works hard on the bench and on the campaign trail. We need many more like her, and she will serve North Carolina well on the Court of Appeals.
Give her all the support you can and make sure you chip in few dollars to help with the public financing.
