Larry Kissell to be Featured on C-Span's Q&A this Sunday

Wow. This didn't take long. Does anyone remember back in 2006 when Larry Kissell had to pretty much tap dance with a peacock on his head to get press coverage? I guess those days are over.

He will be on C-Span's new interview program, Q&A along with Rep. Anh (Joseph) Cao who beat Democrat William Jefferson in Louisiana's 2nd CD. You can learn more about the program here. This isn't a live show. It was taped Tuesday after Larry was sworn in.

Still, really nice.

Great Job Congressman

Larry did a fantastic job. That was a long interview. 30 uninterrupted minutes, and he represented the district very well.

"Keep the Faith"

i'm watching it right now...

...and he looks great.

there's a kind of "mr. smith goes to washington" vibe to the thing that makes him come off very well.

Larry did a great job!

I love the fact that he is so comfortable. He has come a long way. I'm very proud of him.

a fascinating side note...

...is the difference in vote totals between kissell and louisiana's anh cao.

kissell, more than 600,000 votes, and cao, 60,000.

i'm glad it wasn't me having to answer the question of whether my election was legitimate...and i'm sure, on reflection, that kissell would say the same thing.

He would

I thought that was a bit of an awkward question, especially since we had record low turnout in 2006 in Larry's district. Cao's district includes New Orleans. I imagine voting it still way down in total numbers still. Maybe I'm wrong. I haven't looked at total turnout there.

i looked up the results...

...and it's an intersting picture.

this is, as you note above, william jefferson's old district, and the total of all votes cast was 66,000; with cao defeating jefferson 33,000 to 31,000.

if this guy could only beat jefferson by 2,000 votes, with that low of a total turnout (in a district he described as 66% black voters), you know he'll be a targeted district for 2010.

there were far fewer votes cast in nc-8 that was implied in he interview.
the sboe website reports only 283,000 total votes cast in this race, not the 600,000 plus that was mentioned on c-span.

He won't win

The district is something like D+34. I would be shocked if he gets above 40% in 2010.

"Keep the Faith"

his best shot in 2010...

...voter suppression--something he alluded to in his interview--and apathy.

of course, he is very religious--and if he could form good relations with black churches in the district he might end up surprising us all.

Off to a bad start

He is off to a bad start for saving his seat. He voted against the Ledbetter act.

Cool as a Cucumber

I was so impressed. He is as cool as Obama. He's the same on television as he is in person. Way to go, Larry.

I do wonder how it is going to work with his chief of staff in the 8th district instead of DC. Oh well, if it doesn't work he can change it.

A lot of people are wondering the same thing , Love

I have not talked to one person who thinks that arrangement will work - especially for a freshman Congressman.

the washibngton, dc "office manager"...

...becomes a co-chief of staff, and a lot of reading material moves back and forth before decisions are made?

that's the only way i can imagine this could work.

Date of election

The election in Louisiana was held on December 6. If it had been held at the same time the presidential election was held it may have been completely different.

Thank you for clearing that up

I had forgotten. I did think that line of questioning was a bit unfair.

that was a comment made...

...in the interview as well. if i remember correctly, the response was that louisiana voters were suffering from "election burnout".

is it an unfair line of questioning?

not if the question is being asked in the district...and not if the goal of the question is to allow the congressman to offer a defense of the election.
