Latest Poll on NC-11
Submitted by Gordon Smith on Wed, 10/04/2006 - 3:05pm.
I'm buried under work, but this news is too good to let languish on other little sites like MyDD and Daily Kos.
Charles Taylor - 40% (!)
Heath Shuler - 51% (first time over 50% in a poll)
Looks like those negative ads aren't working for Chainsaw Charlie. Looks like Heath's campaign knows what they're doing.

Up Chuck's commercials
suck so bad, it's hard to believe he's actually spending money to get them produced. What a dork.
What was wrong with Syntax's post?
I've never gotten this about you BlueNC folk.
No one frontpages Syntax's post and then you front page a later one.

All you have to do is vote, DQ
It's right there under the post. I had already voted to front-page Syntax's post. It's up to other readers to do the same. Screwy is now a front-page writer, so he can put his posts directly on the front page. For others, all it takes is votes. Add yours and see if it moves. But, remember, it will go in time order, not at the top.
I sure hope that's a joke.

I did vote
And it wasn't a joke. I've never understood that about you guys.
Now you have two front-page posts about the same thing (not that I'm complaining in this case.)

I'm still not quite sure what it is you don't understand
Not everything or everyone gets front-paged. Not sure where this is coming from, but I think you were treated more than fair when you were posting here. I'm sorry if everything you wrote didn't get front-paged, but that's just how it goes sometimes. I don't get every diary I write recommended at Kos, it isn't fun, especially when I think what I have to say is more important that what Keith Olbermann had for lunch, but that's just how it goes.

I was treated great when I posted here
Particularly by you and Anglico and Lance. I have no complaints about that.
I just never saw how the way the site made it's front paging decisions was effective.
I noticed when I was posting a lot and I've noticed since that you lose lots of potential bloggers and readers because of the randomness of the front-paged items. I pretty much get all around the west from Winston to Asheville. And I've tried to get people to come to the site and also to blog and I hear this everywhere.
I really mean "don't understand" when I say I don't understand. I don't mean that I'm sure your way is not the best way. I'm just saying I don't understand it and never did.
And I'll say it again: I was treated very fairly when I posted here. I got headaches being on the computer too much so I have channeled my energies into other strategies.
PS all the work you've done for Larry has been PHENOMENAL!!!

Thank you
But honestly, we don't make the decisions about what goes on the front page....The readers do and it's been that way for a couple of months now.(Maybe longer) We haven't had that many bloggers come and go....commenters, maybe, but I can't remember too many of those who left for negative reasons. I've pretty much been here from the beginning, so if someone says they aren't posting for the reason they seem to be giving I can honestly say they didn't try too terribly hard. You can't post one or two times and expect to become a regular, but we do try to welcome people. If someone wants news about their area they need to bring it here and inform us.
I will chalk this up to "you can't please everybody" and I can honestly tell you that at my age I'm not even going to try. I learned that lesson a loooong time ago. Hopefully, though as the site grows, and it is still growing, there will be a wider range of topics as more people open up more conversations.
Oh...and when/if I ever move I will be a WNC Dem...I didn't realize that until I saw this set of awesome signs that are exclusive to WNC Dems very close to where I will be living. (Lincoln County)

You are a WNC dem, girl
According to the NCDP, Lincoln County is in the "west." so, welcome, the water's warm. Even if I get a bit crusty at times.

Hehe...so your job is to do something
about that HUGE Lincoln Co. GOP BILLBOARD that is only a mile or so from our property. I want to hurl every time I drive by it.
So add one more Dem to the roles and two Dem children (5 and 7 yrs before they register!)

I'm only a volunteer
And I had nothing to do with any billboards but I was somewhat involved in the signs you like. Maybe that's why the Rs felt the need for a billboard!

You have a point there!
I knew you'd been the creative talent for the signs, so almost wrecked the first time I saw them b/c I didn't notice them until about the 2nd or 3rd in the series and then slowed the car to catch the last sign. I don't think the driver behind me was too happy. It was very odd, b/c I really hadn't thought about Lincoln Co as being Western NC. I think of it as Piedmont. If Carsner doesn't win, I will have to get to work on McHenry as soon as I move.
