Let's Talk Iraq -- Sunday, Sept. 9
Three local branches of nationwide progressive organizations are sponsoring a community discussion on ending the Iraq War. The event will be held after the 4:10 p.m. showing of the film "No End in Sight" at Galaxy Cinema in Cary on Sunday, September 9.
NC Peace Action, Triangle Green Party, and Progressive Democrats of America are the sponsors of the discussion. Gerald Surh, professor of history at N.C. State University, will moderate.
The first film of its kind to chronicle the reasons behind Iraq's descent into guerilla war, warlord rule, criminality and anarchy, "No End in Sight" provides a candid retelling of events following the fall of Baghdad in 2003, as told by high ranking officials such as former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, Ambassador Barbara Bodine (in charge of Baghdad during the spring of 2003), Lawrence Wilkerson (former chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell), and General Jay Garner (in charge of the occupation of Iraq through May 2003) as well as Iraqi civilians, American soldiers, and prominent analysts.
The film examines the manner in which the principal errors of U.S. policy – the use of insufficient troop levels, allowing the looting of Baghdad, the purging of professionals from the Iraqi government, and the disbanding of the Iraqi military – largely created the insurgency and chaos that engulf Iraq today. How did a group of men with little or no military experience, knowledge of the Arab world or personal experience in Iraq come to make such flagrantly debilitating decisions? "No End in Sight" dissects the issues and facts behind the Bush administration's decisions.

Let's Talk Iraq
I'm a lurker here but know many of you from Blue NC and DailyKos. You may have seen the YouTube video Gordon Smith put together about my family and how the Bush war policy has put me in the position of working two full-time jobs and taking care of my granddaughter, whose parents are/were in the U.S. military (her mom was injured a couple years ago and cannot take full-time care of her daughter).
Although I don't have huge amounts of time, I try to link in to political events whenever possible. Here's a chance for me to link the work I do in one job with discussion and action to ameliorate GOP policy and bring about grassroots involvement in our government and policies.
We'll save you some popcorn
If you come, don't forget to say hi to Kim!
Thanks for the information!
I think I just might have to go to this. Anyone else?

Sounds like a great event
Unfortunately, I'm working all weekend to pay for my blogging habit.
:(
Saw the movie yesterday
I'm not sure I want to drive to Cary but I'd like to encourage everyone to see this movie whether you go to the discussion or not. No real surprises but I hadn't heard a lot of the details before. I'm amazed at the lack of planning (or the total disregard of the planning that was done). I was assigned to the Joint Staff during Desert Storm and I know the effort that was put into that one.
It's also showing at the Chelsea in Chapel Hill
Don't watch it unless you're prepared to walk away with a deeper sense of outrage and malevolence toward George Bush than you already have.

G'luck with that blogging habit -- long may she wave!
A video for the Waging of Peace
Scott Ritter argues that the antiwar movement in the U.S. should look to military strategists like Sun Tzu and John Boyd to help it end the Iraq War. He is interviewed about his book by New York University's Mark Crispin Miller at an event hosted by McNally Robinson Booksellers in New York City.
