Live Blogging from NOLA
Greetings all.
I am here in NOLA "with" the John Edwards team, with meaning in the same spot. Senator Edwards is doing some work with a group of middle school students and we (NCDem) and myself are covering the event. There will be a large post from NCDem tonight with video and stills and then something by me tomorrow, here and at Kos.

Info on tomorrow's announcement?
My husband and I just happen to be here in NOLA, sitting on our rears in the French Quarter. Can you share with me offline, info on where his announcement will be? We plan on organizing for Edwards in the state (ran Clark in MD in 2004).
Same question....
We live in the 9th Ward in New Orleans and are thrilled that Edwards is running and making his announcement from here. We're prepared to ride all over tomorrow looking for the spot, but if it's possible for someone to PM/email or otherwise let us know an exact location, that would be great.
THE PERFECT ISSUE
I think that Edwards trip to New Orleans was a stroke of genius. There's no more perfect venue to describe what's wrong in America than a ruined city that remains ruined for over a year without significant progress at rebuilding. And all of this despite huge amounts of money spent in the most dubious and wasteful fashion. Are the Republicans oblivious to the poor or simply incompetent?
I'm 56 years old. I moved to North Carolina five years ago. The previous twenty-five years I spent as a resident of Chicago's north shore and before that Wisconsin, Utah and California. I live in Moore County. My Congressman is Howard Coble, my State Sen

the only honest answer to your question is, "both."
Once upon a time it was certainly the case that Rs were oblivious to the poor. They still are oblivious. Except now, with pics of the travesty and devastation in NOLA right in their collective face, they can't claim oblivious. Nonetheless, the Rs in DC couldn't mount anything resembling a competent or effective response to the destruction. Even now, heading into 2007, they still can't.
I'm not sure why, but one reason might have something to do with the ungodly sums we've spent/lost-track-of/squandered in Iraq. A Johnston friend posted this tally at our local listserve.
I sat and watched the total tick up and up for a solid 5 minutes ... just to let it sink in good.
Still don't know whether to get angry or cry about it. The reality is numbing.

They Don't Care -
The Republican party doesn't care about the poor because they have no money! They are of no use to them except for those poor whom they can mislead into voting for them.
Their platform might as well state - if you don't have big bucks, we don't want you. And if you don't *want* big bucks, there's something wrong with you.
Why on earth would anyone expect the Republicans to give a tinker's **** about the poor? The last time one did was in 1860.

my answer is "all of the above"!!!!!!!!
No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.
Cat out of the bag
I guess they let the cat out of the bag a day early.
I look forward to the official announcement tomorrow though...

tin hats on dkos thought this was a planned move. especially because people thought he might delay due to ford, and amusingly, because his motto is "toomorrow begins today."

You beat me to it! We are smiling from ear to ear in our house tonight - and I imagine that after two long years of work, we'll be smiling even bigger on November 5, 2008.
