Living Room Caucus

Enough absentee ballots came out today that we decided to have our voting party. Eight people showed and the primary focus was on Prez, NC-05, Gov, and Lt. Gov. The votes were unanimous on every race but one.

President: Obama - 6, Clinton - 2

NC-05: Roy Carter - 8

NC Gov: Richard Moore - 8

NC Lt Gov - 8

I lobbied hard for those two Clinton votes to switch, to no avail. I did feel better, though, when both agreed to vote for Obama in the general. I should also add that all of the Obama voters reciprocated the sentiment in the case of a Clinton nomination.

One final note on the Clinton voters. While they were aware of the Wright flap-up, that did not affect their votes.

Anyway, I hope this is interesting to somebody out there. This is by no means scientific in any way as most people followed my vote (although it is interesting to know that six white, lower-middle class - including two women, voters picked Obama even as those are supposedly Clinton's strong groups), but we had a lot of fun.

I realize a lot of hard-core politicos prefer to go in the booth on election day, but this is a very enjoyable alternative, plus it frees us up to phone-bank and give rides to the polls on the big day.

Thanks for the update

Sounds like ya'll had a bunch of fun.

That's cool.

That's what I love about politics - the living room stuff. Seriously. That's the best.

And you are a very practical group! You're right, you are free for whatever comes up on Election Day. I have to admit, I love the polls on Election Day, but I'll probably early vote this year in the Primary and the General. I've got almost all of my decisions made.

Now that I think about it..

I probably shouldn't have posted this before the gov debate coming up here on BlueNC (which I am looking very forward to).

But unless Moore shows up and declares his allegiance to the Nazis, we were going that way anyhow (no offense to the other candidates, who I love, respect, and will fight tooth and nail for should they get the nomination).

I should also note that even if the absentee ballot comes tomorrow, one does not have to fill it out and turn it in until the week before the election.

And Linda, while I thank you for your sentiments, calling us a practical group may be an overstatement. You would have to be here to see what I mean. One guy changed his vote because I refilled his drink without being asked! (j/k)

When we do this for the general, it's going on YouTube. The convention has nothing on my living room.

Sounds like so much fun! and

Sounds like so much fun! and I know what you ean about the living room having nothing on the convention. Even our precinct meeting was like that this year. It's going to be a fun election year.

Senate Race

Also, I just got a call from someone asking why I didn't mention the Senate race. We all voted Neal.

There was a debate about electability, gender, and orientation and how these issues would affect the general, but eventually decided to discount that and vote for who we liked best for the job.

The suspense...

How did the Lt. Gov. vote go??

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
