Lt. Gov. Perdue and Treasurer Moore - YOU'RE IN TIME OUT
I have not yet chosen a candidate between Richard Moore and Beverly Perdue. I originally took that position because they were both public servants of great ability who each brought different merits to the campaign for Governor. I was happy to consider voting for either, so I didn't decide to vote for one or the other.
That's no longer the reason.
After last night's "debate," and the bahavior of the past few months, I am seriously considering running for Governor myself. I will run as a candidate capable of acting like an adult.
Should be a big contrast.
Seriously, I have rarely been as disappointed in the behavior of two Democrats in my life. Well, maybe Zell Miller.
So you see the depths of my frustration.
Can Jim Hunt not call these two together and slap them around a little? For crying out loud.
Richard, you bring a sharp mind, photogenic good looks, an economics degree and a bold willingness to think about NC's economic and political development 50 to 100 years out. Imagine that, governing this state with a point of view that goes beyond the next budget year. What a great idea - wish I could wholeheartedly vote for you.
Beverly, you bring a more traditional Democratic common touch, also photogenic good looks, an admirable green record in the General Assembly, and the chance to make history. You are a formidable candidate in your own right. I'd love to be able to vote for you, too.
But really what I want to do is do to you both what I do to my kids when they are fighting over something ridiculous: grab you both by the arm and make you kiss each other.
Grow up. Now. Or I am sending you to time out.

Said like someone with kids
I think there are probably quite a few who share your feelings. I went from being a strong Moore supporter to someone who will vote for him while holding her nose at his campaign staff's behavior. I didn't see the debate last night or hear it, so I can't comment on his personal behavior. I'm disgusted with both of them.
Your post is an almost exact transcript of what I have
been thinking.
Most of the time much is made of seeing which candidate will "go negative". In this year's governor's race it's all about who will be the first to "go positive".
Or to put it another way, the first candidate to show some class will have a good chance of getting my vote.

You got my vote....
I'm not sure about these two.

Question about Perdue
Hopefully someone here can answer this. I was at the NC Soil and Water Conservation District annual meeting this past week (yeah, yeah, I can hear the snide remarks now) and Beverly Perdue spoke at a couple of the sessions. One of the things she mentioned several times was that when she was in the Legislature that she was one of the leaders in the fight to form the Clean Water Management Trust Fund. How truthful is this?

Bev was the primary sponsor
Bev was the primary sponsor of the original clean water management legislation. It was folded into the state budget and she guided it through the process as chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
Thanks
Thanks for the response. The CWMTF has funded several of our Soil and Water projects here in Mecklenburg and helped us start the first Urban Cost Share program in the state. (www.mecklenburgconservation.com. She has my utmost gratitude (and probably my vote) for that.

Great post, Dr. Frank
My sentiments exactly.
FYI:
I'm working on a post to invite both candidates to BlueNC for a series of live-blogging sessions. Should be up later today.
