Maybe Meeker?

By his own admission, ace political observer Bob Geary doesn't traffic in rumors, just well-founded speculation. So when he writes about the possibility of Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker taking on Liddy Dull for US Senate in 08, we ought to at least sit up and take notice. The story first shows up on Wake Pol, one of the N&O blogs.
The highlight of the discussion for me is the dead-on criticism of No-Show Dull and her fondness for anything besides being in North Carolina.

Bowles 3
I like the guy, but if Bowles couldnt do it what makes us think that Meeker can? Both are incredibly intelligent guys with amazing records who look similar.
Both would be fantastic in any role, but I dont know if Meeker could do it.

Oh. Meeker.
Be still my heart. :) Seriously. I think Meeker would be a good candidate against the great Dull one.
Zero name recognition
in these here parts. I thought you were making a nick for Meeks. If he's going to give it a whirl he's already waaaaay behind.

Well, the name recognition is a problem.
You don't think he could change that in two years, though? I don't know. Guess it's like a Charlotte mayor running for Gov. or something like that. But Meeker is a good guy. And he has two years to get his name out there. I mean, we got this free-market fanatic around here who's a fairly new NC Senator who thinks he wants to be Governor. With the right moves Meeker could get his name out there. ??? But like I said, I don't know.
Money
Money is the key to name recognition. Although I dont think he has much now, I think that he could get some fast.

Obviously, anything is possible
It's just hard to imagine Erskine Bowles losing to Burr after running two years previously against Dole. If that's not name recognition, I don't know what is.

name recognition
To get some more name recognition before running for a state-wide office, he should try something regional....general assembly or US House even. (Doesn't he live in Etheridge's District? Hey, Bob, you ready to retire anytime soon??)
