Mel Watt Says George Bush Lied
According to the Char-O, Mel Watt is apologizing for saying George W. Bush lied us into war. Granted, it is a parliamentary apology. I imagine that Watt, like so many of us, does believe that Dubya lied us into war in Iraq. I think his apology was required simply because he made this statement during formal congressional proceedings.
All this talk of lying started me thinking about all the lies that George W. Bush has told the American People. There are so many that David Corn wrote a book about them in 2003. Imagine how many volumes could be filled four years later!
What is the George Bush lie that you think was most significant? Here are a few to get us started. Lets see how many we can find. Bonus points if you can connect a NC Republican congressman parroting a Bush lie. Provide a link if you can and I will add your contributions to this list.
2000 Election - I will restore honor and dignity to the White House. (He sometimes would say "honor and integrity".)
January 28, 2003 - "The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa."
May 1, 2003 - Mission Accomplished. Major combat operations in Iraq have ended.
July 18, 2005 - "President Bush said yesterday that he will fire anyone in the administration found to have committed a crime in the leaking of a CIA operative's name, creating a higher threshold than he did one year ago for holding aides accountable in the unmasking of Valerie Plame."

Can you tell Mel is a lawyer? "......I don't wnt anybody left with the impression that I think the president in general terms is a liar." No, the president lies very specifically.....about everything in general. :)
Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.
It's hard to say which lie is the most significant.
The lies that got us into Iraq have had the most immediate bad consequences - have we reached 4000 American soldiers killed yet?
The lies about restoring dignity and integrity - well, I never thought those were gone, so to me that was moot.
The insidious dishonesty that has led to a steady erosion of our ability to trust in our laws and our government will probably have the most lasting effect.
And tell me again why Watt apologized for saying the emperor has no clothes on? Because from where I sit, the bastard is butt-nekkid. Why apologize for telling it like it is?

How do we know when he has told the truth?
Oh...Watt is a very smart man. He knows he spoke the truth. It's that whole congressional parliamentary thing.......
Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.
Rep Watt has much decorum
and it is the rules of the House not to call the President a liar. I saw him on C-Span after his apology. He did not seem overly chagrined.

and you'll see a reminder that good ol' Robin Hayes and Virginia Foxx ended up voting against a bill that stiffened penalties for people who engage in animal fighting.

You'll also see that Heath Shuler was voted one of the most beautiful people on Capitol Hill, but really, who gives a rat's ass?
