Michelle Obama at NCSU April 8

Michelle Obama spoke for over an hour to a crowd of 5,700 at NCSU's Reynolds Coliseum on Tuesday night. There's been plenty of local media coverage of the event including a full length video of the speech at WRAL's website. Links at the end.

Here's a 3 minute flavor of video from my own camera followed by an array of stills.

Interesting to note that new media evangelist Wayne Sutton was live blogging for WNCN NBC17 with stills and video and texted one-line updates via twitter. Wayne has been pushing the boundaries of new media and social media technology. NBC17 is trying to get a handle on the blogosphere even if, like other MSM outlets, it hasn't quite figured out what to do with it yet. Another twitterer and photographer abbyladybug also texted one-liners during the event and, a rockin' pre-show video clip and cool photos next day Wednesday. For my own part I posted the 3 minute YouTube clip Wednesday morning which I never linked to it since I haven't had time to post anything. As an indicator of the interest in Obama it's already had 600 unsolicited views.

Great pictures!

I haven't watched the video yet. Everyone is asleep and I don't want to wake them. The house is veeeery quiet. I can't wait, though. How did Sophie like it?

Kids

Sophie did great for a 4 year old. We got there at 6:30 and left at 9:30 so we had far exceeded her normal attention span. She knows who Michelle, Barack, Hillary and Nancy are so she has a context. Of course it helps to bring snacks. There were a number of kids.

Snacks, books and small stuffed critters

Got me through a lot of things. My girls also had/have long attention spans. It is a big help. Oh, I also bought them inexpensive cameras and they would take pictures.

Boy what a crowd!

Does Mrs. Clinton bring in crowds like this? What was the atmosphere like, was hope in the air? :)

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

Progressive Discussions

Relaxed confidence

Definitely a good feeling throughout. People were happy and calm, a little giddy. Not so much energized as strengthening of inner resolve. Even Rob Christenson has a smile on his face.

at the WRAL site and I feel a little blush of embarrassment in my cheeks 'cause I was one of those people talking about Iowa, NH and SC way back in Jan/Feb the way Michelle is saying we were talking way back in Jan/Feb. 8^/ But no worries ... Never let it be said that I'm too old to change the way I see things. :)

Still, I do wish he'd tweak his health care plan. Hillary's is better (because Edwards' was better). I honestly believe we've got to go to UHC and I also honestly believe the only path to Universal Health Care is mandatory, subsidized, gubmint managed insurance.

And I don't see problems with enforcement. I think it would be easy. When someone gets their license, they get signed up for health insurance. When someone opens a bank account, they get an insurance check. When a kid enrolls in school, they get an insurance check. When someone gets sick and shows up at the doctor's or ER without insurance, they get signed up for health insurance.
