Mo Southern Love at the Jugtown Cafe

It started with a simple email. Momoaizo and Lovex7 wanted to find a time for us all to go to lunch. I was all for the idea and figured I could scoot over to Moore County after dropping my girls off at school one day.

Then another email - how about Seagrove on a Saturday? Hey, fun women, NC pottery, good food. I'm there. You don't have to ask me twice.

Then the emails were exchanged more quickly. What about LeslieH, lcloud and Working for Change? Right! Then there are C. Diane, chartreuse dog, Drama Queen, Nan, NCVoter, NC Dem and Unique.....we can't leave them out.

One thing led to another and pretty soon we were planning a party. Not just any party, though, the BlueNC Women's Conference. OK, it might just be lunch and shopping for pottery and sitting around chatting with new and old friends. Sounds like fun to me!

Find out more below the fold...

So, why would I post this publicly? Because, we've decided we can't keep all this fun to ourselves. Mo, Love and I cordially invite all BlueNC women - diarists, commenters, lurkers, and spouses of diarists and commenters to join in the fun.

We will be holding our festivities on Saturday, February 17. We don't have all of the details worked out, but I wanted to go ahead and get the date on your calendars. Do you want to sleep late on Saturday? That's fine. We will have shopping and touring before and after lunch. Need to leave early? Great, just join us in the morning for coffee and some fun shopping. Leave when you need to. We hope to have a special guest or two at lunch, but I won't disclose those details until they are worked out.

Luckily, Mo did a wonderful diary post last fall on Seagrove. She posted some handy links and pictures that I've been sneaky enough to steal for this post. In the morning we will visit potters located on the 5 mile radius map located at this link. In the afternoon we will visit potters located on the 10 mile radius map. (PDF)

We will have more details for you in the next few days. Lunch is planned for The Jugtown Cafe and we are checking with them to see if they are able to cater to different dietary needs.

Please send me a private message if you would like to be included in the fun. We want everyone to feel welcome, however, it is women only. We do need some type of indication of the size of our group so we don't overwhelm some of the smaller potteries or the restaurant.

Any ideas? Please, let one of us know. We're open to suggestions. We hope to see you all there.

Attendees so far: Momoaizo, Lovex7, SD, Working for Change, LeslieH, C. Diane, lcloud. You can post in comments or send me a private message or email.

Hey, can men come?

I'm kidding. We men are having our own group. It's called the Super Bowl, and men from around the world will gather from their discrete remote locations.

I'll be on St. Simon's Island for the Super Bowl gathering. Where you gonna be?

Scrutiny Hooligans - http://www.scrutinyhooligans.us

At my house

NOT watching the super bowl. I am preparing a spread for the man and the offspring. We always set up snackies and stuff.

We wouldn't kick a man out of our gathering....we are the big tent, afterall.

Awesome news.

I hate going hungry while I smell food ;)

Do you have a time in mind for meeting? It looks like it's an hour and a half to get there from my place.

We'll figure a time and place to meet

in the morning and then figure a schedule of potteries to visit before lunch. I'll just send you my cell phone number and a map when we get a bit closer. That way you can just call us when you get into town and meet us wherever we happen to be at the time.

And another thing....

Follow SD's link to my article, the first link in my article goes to a list of every potter in the area. Click on their names and it will show you a sample of their pottery. We can plan our trip with this.

dang! out of state!

I will be having a relaxing weekend at Myrtle Beach while my husband runs a half marathon. Well, relaxing as chasing my seven year old son around. Plus we will be celebrating Chinese New Year, so hunting good Chinese food in MB(??) and buying stuff for the young'un will be on the agenda.

Happy New Year!

We will miss you, but we will have more events in the future and hopefully can have a gathering of all our BlueNC family at some point - spouses and all. We just have to figure out the particulars.

Lovex7

ps

Did we ask Tina?

Lovex7

Not yet

I was trying to settle on a few more details before we contacted Tina and anyone who does not visit BlueNC very often to get updates.

That's a good one

You do have to BYOJ.

Frogtown

I know it's a little bit further down 705 than the 10 mile radius but I recommend a visit to Teague's Frogtown Pottery in Eagle Springs/ Frogtown

The Teagues' pottery is good, the prices are good and the Teagues are really nice people. They don't have a huge inventory. They've been less prolific in recent years since Fred had medical problems. Their shop/ studio is modest but you'll remember visiting with them.

The route from Eagle Springs along 705 to Seagrove is part of the "Pottery Road Scenic Byway" (see page 79)

Visiting the Teagues is a good excuse to travel the length of the road though I know you can't see everything within the 10 mile radius of Seagrove in one day as it is. If you are passing through Eagle Springs anyway it's worth stopping by.

Thanks, Greg

That's one thing we are doing - taking suggestions on where to stop.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Women.

Inside and out. Very fun and interesting.

Don't miss A's link above

It is soooo cool.

Lovex7

We need some way to

recommend a link. Sometimes I don't bother with them. There's no way to tell . . . That one was excellent.

And all the men and women merely players.”
So enjoy the drama.

I'm in . . . but do we really

have to go SHOPPING? It's so trite, and you know how hard I work to avoid trite. But I would like to see the potteries.

Look at us BlueNC women, helping the local economies. Of course, DL helps the local breweries and the local bars. Oh, and I see, we can join in later.

Hey, should we invite anyone who scores in the female range on this BBC "IS your brain male or female?"test? I scored 15 into the female side. Whew. That was a close one. And what about hermaphrodites? Okay. Okay. I know I'm being difficult . . .

I scored...

pretty significantly into the "male" side when I took that quiz. But it's based on gender stereotypes and evopsych anyway.

Oh Wow, if we invite only women who score in the female range

in this test, I wouldn't be invited :(

My scores suggest that I have a "balanced female-male" brain....geez (????)

Does this informal response

mean that female bloggers are "male-brained" females? We could have a competition to see who best parallel-parks a car.

Or how about who would stop to ask

directions.....shoot, I've gotten out and stopped traffic to find out where I am!

please send me the address for the diner/cafe so somebody can MapQuest it.

Nobody goes on 64 anymore?

It's been 13 years since I lived in Raleigh and that's the way we used to go. I go through there all the time, but I am coming from a different direction. I need to know how long it takes to drive from Raleigh to Seagrove.

Lovex7

I use GoogleMaps.

Their estimates are usually a little high, I've found.

Love, it will probably be no more than an hour

and probably less. It takes 50 mins to get to Raleigh from Pinehurst.
Just take 64 west to 220, then take the Seagrove exit off 220, turn left at the light and it's about a mile to the Jugtown Cafe (on the left).

64

64 has gotten a lot faster.

I used to allow 45 minutes to get from Raleigh to Sanford. Does that mean you go from Sanford to Pinehurst in 5 minutes? Sounds like carnage in Carthage to me.

Took us 1 hr from Pinehurst to Chapel Hill

Up 15-501 to us 1 to 501. Are you the guy that drives soooo slow on US 1?

Thank you.

Now I feel better. I was arguing with all the web maps, but they didn't care. That is exactly the way I would go. All the web maps were saying it was almost 2 hours.

Lovex7

NUTS!!

I have to hold a precinct meeting that day and cannot get out of it.
Nuts, nuts, nuts! I would have been there in a heartbeat!
Take pictures and have fun!

Nan, noooooo

I was counting on you to be there! Will it be all day? We are meeting early with those who can and scheduling a second round for those who can't make the early morning "tour".
