More From The Obama Front Lines

I know you've all heard it a hundred times, but I have to say it again.....I've never been a part of anything like this campaign in my life. My husband and I took the boys in their little red wagon to go canvass door to door Saturday morning. We took off from the campaign office here in Washington and headed a few blocks North to about the roughest section of town. Needless to say, a family of white folks on foot looked a little our of place. As we went up to knock on doors, folks were very wary of us.....until we let them know that we were there for Sen. Obama's campaign. You could literally watch people's whole demeanor change. Minorities in this part of the world are so used to being treated like second class citizens, they've kind of sealed themselves off. Generally, it would seem that if they're cold to you, you won't talk to them and therefore, won't have a chance to be ugly. All that seems to vanish around the campaign. It's not just in the houses we've been to, but in the people volunteering with the campaign as well. It's refreshing to say the very least.

Politics have a history of being such a dividing force. To have a candidate that seems to inspire unity it's something that is going to make history, if it already hasn't. I'm privileged to be a part of it.

What's even more fascinating? I heard a brief quote from a forum that Sen Obama took part in yesterday about how this was not just a Christian nation. We are a nation of Jews, Muslims, Hindus etc...and Atheists. Our leader has to represent all of those groups. If a political leader feels he or she has a direct line to God, the public eye is not a place to reveal that. It misrepresents the diversity that makes up their constituency. Thank you, thank you Barack Obama! As an atheist, the recent turn in politics to the evangelicals has left a rather sour taste in my mouth. I can't even begin to tell people how relieved I am that a leader is willing to step up and represent us all.

Wonderful story.

I think many people nationwide are experiencing the very same feelings you are. It's funny to see just how much fun people from all walks of life are having here in Cabarrus County. It's a campaign like none I've seen before, and I'm happy to witness it myself.

Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory says he wants to change the culture in Raleigh. I guess that's why he wrote this letter to PAC lobbyists asking for their fundraising help. Change you can believe in? Riiiiiiight. Join the conversation here.
