NC COLLEGE DEMOCRATS TO HONOR GOODWIN AT STATEWIDE RECEPTION

The North Carolina Federation of College Democrats is proud to be hosting its first ever Winter Reception following the N.C. Democratic Party's State Executive Committee meeting in Hamlet, North Carolina on January 26th, 2008. The event will be held at the historic Hamlet Train Depot and will honor former State Representative Wayne Goodwin, a Hamlet native.

This is the first fundraiser of its kind held by the Federation. The group has sponsorships beginning at the $100 dollar level, though individual tickets are $15 each. All proceeds will benefit the Federation of College Democrats and its various projects throughout the state. The event is being held in the Eighth Congressional District, one of the districts Democrats are focusing heavily on for the 2008 elections.

Wayne Goodwin is the first-ever honoree of the reception and a long-time Democratic Party activist.

In a letter to the Federation Goodwin said of the reception: "As a past Vice President of the College Federation myself (1988-89), as well as both a past President of the Young Democrats of North Carolina (1995-1997) and a 4-term State Representative (1997-2005) still very active in State politics, the Federation's decision to pursue this means a great deal to me."

Goodwin continued, "My experiences as a College Democrat starting 23 years ago helped sow seeds for my later successes in the political arena and in my shaping public policy for the better. To have today's College Democrats hold this first reception in my honor is quite humbling. It is also inspiring to me personally that the work one does in the past can truly bear unexpected fruit many years later. I hope that many of my Richmond County friends and supporters and former constituents will turn out for this Hamlet reception starting approximately 4:30 pm that day."

He closed with, "Let's support the work of today's college students. Their experiences today will mold the political leaders of tomorrow."

Many Statewide officials and community leaders from around North Carolina will attend this reception in Goodwin's honor. Among them are Congressmen, state legislators, county commissioners and mayors.

The honoree is married to Representative Melanie Wade Goodwin. He is a graduate of Richmond Senior High School (1985), UNC-Chapel Hill (1989), and the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law (1992).

In addition to serving in the legislature, Goodwin was the 2004 Democratic nominee for Labor Commissioner and presently serves as Assistant Commissioner of Insurance for North Carolina.

The Hamlet Train Depot reception begins immediately following the adjournment of the State Executive Committee Meeting, which takes place earlier in the day at Cole Auditorium on the Richmond Community College campus. Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served. The cost is $15 per person.

Since When is Campbell Brown My Hero?

Trying to get a straight answer out of McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds.

BTW: I'm glad that Talking Points Memo posted this excerpt on Youtube, but since when does TiVo'ing something allow you to brand it with your logo? That's the Wild West...
