NC College Federaton of College Democrats -- Lt. Gov. Debate Postponed!
Debate postponed!
Last minute organizer complications resulted in postponement of the debate among Democratic Lt. Gov. Candidates previously scheduled for last night, Saturday April 12, 2008.
No new date has been set. It looks as if we may, as I post, have some kind of clock error on the site, as I am posting a little before six on Sunday April 12, 2008. That might be why yesterdays events seem to be showing for now, if that's what's happening.
In any event, the College Democrats will let us all know as soon as they know when they'll hold the Charlotte debate.
Hi. I'm Kay House. I'm Dan Besse's wife, and I noticed that the banner at the top of the site says the Lieutenant Governor debate in Charlotte is tonight. I don't want anybody driving down to Charlotte in a hurry to hear it, so I'm posting this note.
I'm writing on Sunday. I'm not entirely clear on the details, but as I understand it, something came up at the last minute to cause the cancellation by the College Democrats. They called the four candidates to let them know about the the problem, but it the short time frame kept them from making as broad an announcement as they would usually have made.
You haven't heard from me before.
I support Dan in his candidacy, and I wish that my personal situation allowed me to do more about it. I've been disabled for several years now. It's very frustrating to believe strongly in something and be unable to do much about it.
You can count on Dan to keep his promises, work hard to solve the problems he sees and be open to hearing information he didn't have. I've been married to him for almost thirty-one years now, and I know.

Please sort out the information. Today is Sunday 13th.
You are correct, Sunday is the 13th.
(You knew that.) The debate WAS scheduled for last night, Saturday the 12th.
On Sunday the 13th, between five and six pm, I noticed the ad in the banner. I also noticed that Dan was at home. He had just returned from a Greensboro event. I asked him what happened.
He filled me in that the event had been canceled. I told him I was concerned that people might see the item in the banner saying that the debate was tonight(which would then have been 7pm on Sunday the 13th, which was why I wondered if there might be a clock error) so I said I'd post the info about the cancellation and that the College Democrats planned to reschedule, but hadn't gotten that set up yet.
Dan went on to work on other things. (I didn't ask whether they were for clients, the City of Winston-Salem or the campaign.) I posted the item.
The item in the banner did not state the date. It said "Tonight." It's true that it would have been better if I had noticed that sooner, but it wasn't too late to be worth doing. People in or near Charlotte might check the location, and might be saved a trip.
You see how it comes about that I am disabled. My concentration is not what it was back when I was formerly able to practice law. I have transform migraine, and between the pain and the medications that control or prevent the pain, I can't count on my ability to catch things like that.
Thanks for helping me out there!
This is a correction of my post about cancellation that of an event that was to happen yesterday, Saturday night, April 12. I'm told it will be rescheduled later.
I posted the cancellation the day AFTER the event that didn't happen because of an item in the banner that could have seemed confusing to people who didn't know when it originally planned to start or that it had been canceled since it a) said it was on and b) didn't mention the date.
I did that because I know that when volunteers maintain a web site, they can't always change everything "right this minute" and there isn't usually a reason to use the date in everything. Sometimes using even the correct date can be confusing.
My concentration is getting worse still, but thanks again. I wouldn't have wanted to make the confusion worse.
No problem!
You didn't make the confusion worse. The banner could have been confusing to someone who wasn't "tuned in". I'm sure James or Betsy will take care of it as soon as they can.

Hello, Linda! I'm glad to meet you online.
Thanks!
So am I, but it isn't as if they have nothing better to do than change listings of events that nearly everyone knows were set for a certain time, and last minute cancellations can be confusing.
I was just annoyed with myself for adding to the confusion by getting my dates wrong.
Happy Monday!
Kay, you didn't add to any confusion
I will probably just stop putting Today!, Tonight!, Right now!.... as the times things are happening. We don't get many viewers on weekends at all and I haven't gotten any angry emails from folks who drove out there to find there was no debate as a result of the calendar, so I'll consider us lucky and stick to the days of the week from now on.
I hope you'll hang out and chat with us more often. We just love your husband around here.
HI Kay! Nice to kinda, sorta meet you.
Too bad the debate was postponed. Hopefully they can reschedule.
Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.
Hi Betsy! Good to meet you online!
I hope the debate can be rescheduled, too. Dan sounded as if he assumed that it would be possible, and I know he was disappointed that it had to be rescheduled. Still, he understood. Sometimes things come up.
The College Democrats are doing a wonderful job with this series of debates, so I hope they can wind them up with a grand finale!
Hello Kay!
It's very nice to "meet" you. I'm certainly looking forward to your husband being elected as Lt. Governor.
Thanks for posting the note.

Kay
Thanks for posting. I put it on the front page but I was headed out the door at the same time and pulled it because the dates were confusing and I hadn't time to verfiy all the information but mainly because it was past the time people would be heading out for the "non-existent" debate. You can also use the "Contact Us" form to send an email.
