NC Republican Smear: All Radical American Haters for Obama

NC Republican State Senator Neal Hunt, running for re-election and supporting John McCain on C-Span November 1st:

First Michele Bachmann, Robin Hayes and, Randy Kuhl. Now a State Senator, NC Republican Neal Hunt wallows in the mud.

"I would like some, some, normal person that knew him growing up to come forward and say "I love America and, and eh, I really like Barack Obama" I just hadn't seen anybody like that. Everybody, all of his associations seem to be radical American haters."

WhalerCane brought this to our attention last night in the post: Neal Hunt Calls All Obama Associates 'Radical American Haters'. Because the streaming video is a little tedious to wade through I've clipped it, posted it to YouTube and added the short transcript.

Chris Mintz Says He Should Apologize to Voters
Raleigh – Today during a national television broadcast, State Senator Neal Hunt said that all associates of Barack Obama are “radical American haters.” Appearing on C-Span Mr. Hunt also brought up the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, and falsely claimed that as President, Barack Obama would roll back President Clinton’s welfare reform, “putting people back on the public doll”.

His opponent, Small Businessman Chris Mintz called on Mr. Hunt to apologize to the voters of the 15th district. “I’ve been talking with thousands of Obama supporters and none of them are radial American haters. They are showing they love for America by coming out to vote in droves. Neal Hunt owes all voters an apology for his outrageous comments.”

Mintz continued. “Neal Hunt’s extremism is why he is ranked near the bottom in effectiveness in the State Senate. Our state and nation are facing too many challenges to continue divisive politics as usual. It’s time we get results.”

Neal Hunt is merely second rate.
Soft-spoken with an adequate drawl and dressed well enough, his audition video is still a failure.
Hunt lacks the genteel passion and persuasive eloquence of stage-worthy Southern fear merchants and so cannot make a profession of demagoguery.
It is time to break the news to him and send him home to whatever he did before public office.

Hunt is essentially self funded, (like Johnny Mac Alexander who is running against Josh Stein). Hunt hasn't had a wealthy challenger so even the qualified Gerry Bowles couldn't tip him over last time. Maybe turnout will be his Achilles heel and Chris Mintz can knock him out of his penny loafers (and I've seen his loafers, without socks).
