"Worrisome"

"BRAC"

My take on these ads.

I really like BRAC. It plays well with me, shows that Bev Perdue handled a tough situation, that she was trusted with this important role by Easley, and that she is ready to go as Governor.

I didn't feel anything with "Worrisome". It's an okay ad, but it didn't grip me in any way. I just watched it a third time and the list of programs is encouraging. Education for everyone, health care, etc.

My take

I wasn't around for this BRAC, but I know, coming from a military community, that every time BRAC comes up there are rumors that "the base is going to close that the world will come to an end." Also, the ad rang slightly untrue to me since as Lt Gov (or Gov for that matter) she could be a voice of advocacy, the real fight is carried on by the local congressperson. At least that is the way that I have always seen it play out.

As to the first ad, I think that it is just normal tripe. I am going to do this this and this. First of all, I don't want affordable health care, I want universal health care. As JRE was saying for months, we need to stop equivocating with our rhetoric and really stand for something real, not something that sounds nice.

Keep n mind that I am totally neutral in the Gov's race, so this is not any kind of attack on Purdue, merely observations. Neither ad did any thing for me or the people that I live with.

Hmmmmm

Gonna watch them again....and again.

Neither really resonates with me. First one comes across as a scare tactic and even though the final seconds are very positive and Perdue's voice sounds like it has just the right mix of enthusiasm and confidence.....eh....it was kinda weak. Remember - that's initial impression.

Second, I loathe that man's voice coming across as the sound of impending doom. I hear his voice a lot on other ads...or someone who sounds just like him. I'm sure that will play well with lots of folks, but it turned me off right away.

I think her earlier ads were a lot stronger.

OK...will watch again. I think with the first there needs to be more of what we hear in the final few seconds throughout the ad. The ending was good.

Heard an analysis somewhere...

that positive biographical ads don't help campaigns. They don't move voters, they don't recruit voters, etc. Now, my wife really, really, really liked this Bev ad. So, I think they are wrong in at least one case.

Yup...that's the one I'm talking about

I think the laundry list bio ads are bad. If it's biographical it has to tug at some heartstrings and this one does. I think it's much better than these other two.

Remember I griped b/c they didn't use Bev's voice. She has a great voice. The bio ad would have been perfect to use her voice. I think when you're doing something like the negative ad (first ad) maybe the intro to negative challenges facing us could be a bit shorter, but she sounded great at the end...they just need more of her being positive and less of the horrifying future we all face. Seriously...somebody give me a gun...my window isn't high enough off the ground to do the job right.

OK....second viewing

First one is absolutely depressing. I was ready to jump out a window to end it all before I ever got to Perdue's bright note at the end. It's like she's saying "The world is coming to an end. Vote for Bev Perdue." Yes, times are tough...just don't spend 29 seconds talking about it and then punctuate it with a smiley. The greedy investors line comes out of left field. What focus group came up with that one? If that's supposed to be a jab at Moore, it is very inexpertly played....what's the word we were using earlier....amateurish.

Second one...still that voice of impending doom bothers me. That will resonate with the military and the cities surrounding the bases, but don't really think it will be strong in too many other places. That might be exactly what was intended. It isn't a bad ad....I just personally can't stand that scary voice. :)

That's the smuckers guy voice, I swear!

Not really - but I keep waiting for him to talk about jelly.

I like the BRAC ad - though BRAC has been a huge burden on infrastructure in my community already, and will continue to be. That aside, it's a decent ad. The first one - who says "worrisome"? It's all passive voice. Instead of saying that times are worrisome, or whatever it says - say "I'm Bev Perdue, and I know you're worried - about your home, about your child's education, etc. etc. etc." Positive, active voice. Talk to me like I'm standing right in front of you. Address me, personally. Well, not me, specifically, but the viewer. Make it more personal, less distanced.

Hilarious....if it's Smuckers it's got to be good

Funny...but it's worrisome. :)
