Wilson County - Dew draws mayor's ire during council meeting

Comments

This is an Example of how Democracy DOES NOT WORK

I hope Blue NC will front page this with Dan B's analysis of the rate providers he posted. We get 90% of our help in cities from people who come to this site to read and study the issues. They email us here and then they get involved. This site is critical. We could use another shock before the next board meeting on the 26th. There are some legal issues coming out now too.

This situation made me sick in Wilson. It should make every resident of this state sick and embarrassed. I asked myself if I was in a progressive state or if I had fallen through a time tunnel. James Johnson appears to want to thwart open meeting law. Bruce Rose does not understand electric power or have any idea what is going on. What we are seeing folks is a Mayor threatened by a stand up leader. Real LEADERSHIP is scaring the old boy network of non-leaders who are not competent to run meetings let along be on a board to hire a half million dollar CEO to mismanage a budget, rule over a stupid refinance (which he has never accepted on bit of responsibility for), given gigantic raises to worthless people most folks have never seen but by all biographical searches are not the best, brightest or competent, and generally ruined a group.

Bruce Rose does not know half of what Dew says because Dew knows more about ElectriCities than Rose and that is a threat to the old boy power keeping Wilson in the dark and part of Wilson in the third world. And we wonder what is wrong with improving eastern NC. With non-leaders like Rose, how could eastern NC ever be better.

After asking for ElectriCities oversight, Dew focused on two statements Rose recently made during City Council meetings. In August, Rose told Dew that the "city is not going to do anything" in relation to ElectriCities board decisions. He also said that ElectriCities was looking at all the issues related to high electric rates.

Notice the silence. Rose is not doing anything and ElectriCities has looked at NOTHING. Did I miss something or are all the news reports about what ElectriCities is SCREWING UP or NOT DOING.

Fred Turnage, I don't know much about him, except to say he went along to get along, and his silence as a Mayor for 30 years and an organizer of ElectriCities, is deafening. He needs to stand up and say something. People depended on him for 30 years and are now finding out he sat and listened and did not want to make waves, and the result 14% rate increases. Tragic.

Dan B has it right on target. The power agency meeting more is no different than the minutes of ElectriCities which show 50% of their meetings devoted to personnel issues. And, a budget meeting of the Board where the agenda was loaded, the meeting relatively short, and little discussion. And, Daryl Barber's letter

http://www.wilsondaily.com/Print/ElectriCities-can-save-money-with-simpl...

hits them all because it shows Barber studied a line item budget, got a line item budget, far MORE than anyone on the power agency or ElectriCities Board got. How did that happen? It happened because Barber went to work and got a budget, analyzed it and worked out a solution. Did you hear that folks? Barber offers solutions.

SOMETHING I HAVE NOT SEEN ROSE, TURNAGE or anyone on that board do. Nothing from them except more meetings and a cut of pay in 2009. Noble, Craft, Elks, Williams, Stultz, Story, Thomas, Smith, Boynton, Cox, Seamone, Lacy have all sat back; collected checks; believed without question Jesse Tilton; held meetings on personnel issues and then did nothing; read and voted on a HUGE budget after 15 minutes; accepted reckless spending on huge pay increases; rewarded an incompetent CEO mismanaging the place into the ground; and now blow smoke and mirrors about MEETING MORE and getting more involved in issues. Ba humbug. Gentlemen and Ladies, you should have gotten involved about 30 years ago, or even 2 years ago. You should get involved now, read, listen and MAKE CHANGES.

This is one of the most idiotic organizations in American History. Perhaps we should get on the list for a federal bail out because this sure is hurting a lot of people who do not deserve it.

ElectriCities board - who is qualified to run the store?

Dan B is right about the competency level of the Board.

Based on research:

Sam Noble is a small town manager with no expertise in electric markets
Richad Thomas, a mayor and CPA so he probably should see the screw up in the financial side and the mismanagement of public funds
Strib Boynton, a city manager from Arkansas - High Point is screwed up so the less said the better
Jerry Cox, a former everything, fired from everywhere in many cities
Bill Seamone, a utility director without policy experience
Wilson Lacy, can find nothing. he is on the Public Works Commission
Jennie Stultz, should get it, larger city Mayor, but a Keep America Beautiful rep
Linda Story, a clerk turned manager - not much there
Bob Smith, former Duke employee - should get it all, does he?
John Craft, special assistant turned town manager so not much experience
Bruce Rose, a fire chief turned Mayor
Fred Turnage, an attorney who SHOULD GET IT, but sits on the side taking no position. How did he get to be a Mayor and stay there so long?
Mark Williams, a town manager who was in crossfire for not getting a graduate degree
Ron Elks - greenville utilities and should be one to get it with 30 years experience

What do you think? Would you let them manage your business, your money, your state?

Ricardo Dew- Comments to the Wilson City Council

In light of all the newspaper articles in Wilson and surrounding areas about the spending and salaries at ElectriCities. With the suggested cut and downsizing that have fallen upon deaf ears, it is now time that the City Council exercise it power and rights on the things that it can.

Don’t tell me that questions have been asked at ElectriCities. I have been at the last three Board of Directors meetings and no question has been asked as to cuts or doing something internally to help lower rates. If it was discussed in a closed session then I would not know. But I did not read about any concerns from the City. I am sure that you know as Council members of a member city you can ask to meet with the Board of Directors. Do this and ask for accountability and to understand the mismanagement.

As for here at home, find ways that the city can help the elderly on fixed income that had a tough time last year. Find ways that the city can help single parents who work two jobs to make ends meet. I know that we all have it hard and with the federal bail out of AIG and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, it may look like there is an up hill battle but if you are looking at over $5 million in a new city hall then why not look at $5 million to help the people who help make Wilson what it is today and help them with their electric bills.

Two Comments have been made by Mayor Bruce Rose:

"We're going to take some heat when this hits the paper," Rose told the council members. "But we've got to do what's right for the city."

"The ElectriCities board is looking at every issue we can possibly look at this time," said Mayor Bruce Rose, a member of ElectriCities board of directors. "The city is not going to do anything."

Do what is right for the city. Are not the people the city? Is the city going to do nothing or something that will help the people? When the statement was made that the city is not going to do nothing, I did hear a vote or a motion to that effect. Is the city run by a dictatorship or a council-manager form of government?

So with that I have 3 questions for the Council:

1 Will the council meet with the Board of Directors of ElectriCities to better understand and hold them accountable and bring a report back to the people in Wilson?
2 Will the City do something to help the people of our city with their electric bill or get ElectriCities to do something, like make cuts?
3 Is our city a dictatorship?

Here is a list of some of the things we do to each other that make us lose respect for another person or to feel disrespected by their behavior:

1 We are not given reasonable explanations
2 Our questions are not taken seriously
3 Our questions are not answered or are evaded

The air time for the citizens on tv needs to be reinstated. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing your answers.

And as JJ in Wilson said, turn on the audio and turn off the video but let the people be heard.

Sounds like Mayor Rose is an Electricities Puppet

If he thinks he's gotten the answers citizen should have gotten from EC, he's either:

1. Dumb as a fence post
2. Too cozy with EC leadership

Either way, Wilson needs a new mayor.
