County Library System - Moore County

Momoaizo probably won't be able to join us until this evening. She is working hard at a new job and sent this contribution for WoW. Thanks, Mo. We miss seeing you around.

The Moore County Library has five facilities pretty well spread out around the county. The largest one is in the county seat, Carthage. There's also one in the upper part of the county, in Robbins, one in the eastern portion, Vass and two in the southern part, Aberdeen and Pinebluff. The Page Memorial Library, Aberdeen Branch is the second oldest public library in North Carolina

Our County Library is also a member of the Sandhill Regional Library System which banded together with four other county library systems in 1942. These counties include Anson, Montgomery, Hoke and Richmond. As a member of the Regional System, they have addition purchasing power, specific library training and professional oversight. All five counties are connected with a single database and provide free internet access to county residents.

As a card carrying member of the library system, you have access to videos, faxes, copy machines, to say nothing about the 85,698 books and all those wonderful audio books available. You can even use their online catalog, www.srls.info to find a calendar of events, books available within the system, or a knitting class. Moore County Library System has over 108 subscriptions to newspapers, magazines and paperbacks and the mags and p-backs can be borrowed for two weeks!

The song of the librarian is , "The love of reading starts young.", to encourage an interest in books, Carthage provides a children's room filled with adventure packed books to stimulate the young mind. They have recently set aside a Young Adult Area surrounded by books, audiobooks, and graphic novels chosen specifically for teens. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

The Carthage branch has a local history room available to anyone interested in Moore County or Family history, including copies of the Carthage Blade newspaper dating back to 1878. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

The Robbins Library provides both computer access and books in Spanish. The Vass Area Library is in a converted movie theater. Each branch tries to address the reading needs of it's surrounding area. To reach a broader audience, the BookMobile is "On the Road Again". To find phone numbers and operating times, visit the Sandhills Regional Library System online.

Great post....I know you enjoyed that session!

She is adorable! Does she belong to you or to the library?

Thanks for putting this up for me SD

Got a new job and stay BUSY! Have been working there for 1 month, tomorrow. I have been trying to learn the job and get the work caught up at the same time and it has required long hours (OT is good!) I am getting there, getting home around 5:30 or 6:00 this week. Since it requires me to sit at a desk all day, I have been very good about going to exercise, which gets me home between 6:30 or 7:00. So I am trying to catch up after dinner, but everyone seems to be gone. Was called by the newspaper the other day to see if I still wanted to keep my blog. I have been neglecting that too. Things are changing, for the better. It's a great job and a great place to work.

I have missed you guys!

Oh, almost forgot

She is our friend's granddaughter. Her name is Zoya. This was taken on Memorial Weekend when we went on our annual camping trip to Erwin, TN. She is adorable!

Here's a few more pics of the weekend..

We call our group the Noli Pirates because we blocked rafters, kayakers an canoers from passing unless they paid with a nice cold alcoholic beverage.....most did with a smile!

This is the firepit and kitchen area of the camp site, sort of communal, shared the cooking, meals and cleaning!

Oh that looks like fun

I used to do a lot of camping and hiking when I was younger. I married a man who isn't much a fan of sleeping on the ground. Oh well.

Maybe the BlueNC Women can take a camping trip......we might even include the men.

Would love to camp in Washington County

Do we know anyone there with lots of room for tents and campers? Hmmmmmm......

Maybe we could ask the Navy

if we could camp on that acreage they bought and won't be able to use. :)

On the original topic of this post

We hold our precinct meetings at the Vass Public Library. It's a sweet little place, with a military history museum, lots of town memorabilia, etc. We use an old WW2 era flag for the pledge at the meetings. :)

Just post "I'm okay -

just busy" every now and then and we won't worry so much.
