John Birch Society Slams Richard Burr
It seems some of Richard Burr's strongest supporters are unhappy with him about his recent attempt to extend the debate in the Senate on illegal immigration. Jim Capo of The John Birch Society opened his piece by calling Burr's vote for cloture "traitorous" and followed with a detailed description of activity surrounding a vigil outside Burr's main North Carolina office.
I don't follow the John Birch Society, but this piece popped up in my Google alerts and I just had to see what they were saying about Burr and http://www.ncpolitico.com/node/46 >Robin Hayes. There were points in this piece that made me laugh 'til I cried.
Capo describes Burr as basically weak and unable to stand up to pressure from the White House.
Last week Monday night, the Washington whisper was that North Carolina's junior senator was indeed going to cave into White House pressure and vote for the cloture motion.
He went on to describe the phone calls and emails coming fast and furious into Burr's office. My first hint that this piece had to be a farce was when he described a man who took a day off work to petition his senator as a man fighting for his country.
Then I remembered that Capo is a conservative and they love to make themselves seem all manly by using war words to describe each other. A man who took a day off work to drive 45 minutes to Burr's NC office might be doing his civic duty, might be speaking his truth to power but he isn't putting his life on the line with inadequate body armor to fight for his country. There is a difference.
Capo then goes on to describe the efforts they made to get a crowd of people to petition Senator Burr in his main North Carolina office. After many phone calls and emails the word had spread that a crowd was to be expected.
By the end of Wednesday evening, Senator Burr's office knew that they were going to have citizens exercising their right to visit their senator's office the next morning. They did what most politicians and bureaucrats do when faced with having to deal with an unknown number of citizens coming to express their opinions. They called the police.
Bwahahahaha........ Burr called the police on a group of Republicans? Say, what? Did he expect violence? Why would he expect violence? He called the police on Republicans and members of the John Birch Society? I'm still having a hard time moving beyond this one.....but I love it.
Still, this wasn't my favorite part. That's coming up.
When we entered the lobby of the Senator's office, we were greeted by State Director Dean Myers. Mr. Myers is the highest ranking official in Senator Burr's North Carolina staff. Coming out from behind the security door to the lobby, Director Myers was polite, gracious and relieved to be able to tell us right up front that, "Unless something dramatically changes, Senator Burr will be voting NO on cloture."
The citizenry were relieved but wary. North Carolina is the home state of Robin Hayes who swore to the voters he would vote against CAFTA. And actually did vote against the deal, but then with the House vote clock left open to allow the necessary scheming for passage, Hayes reversed himself and had his NO vote switched to a YES vote! Anything is possible. Though State Director Myers said it would be impossible for Senator Burr to communicate with us by phone as he was entering the Senate chambers, the crowd hung around.
Right, they didn't trust Burr because, well, Republicans in North Carolina have this habit of lyinguh..er...changing their minds under pressure from the White House.
Capo says Myers came out once again an hour later to say that Burr was indeed going to vote no and about half their crowd left. Hmmmm....I wonder if the police were still hanging around.
My favorite part was included in Capo's "aside":
In the end, there were only two people to have really had a bad time of it. .....
:::snip:::
The other person who definitely had a bad day was a staffer in the senator's office, apparently offended that she had to rub elbows with the citizenry. On her return trip from the bathroom across the hallway, the senator's public servant lashed out at the people in the hallway shouting that they were being rude and obnoxious. The people milling about and having conversations with each other as if they were at a church were as stunned as the media people on the scene.
One member of the crowd, a two-time congressional candidate much more tactful in person than in his campaign ads, took it upon himself to explain to this staffer the finer points of how to treat the public when you are working for a U.S. Senator. At this point the women snapped, offered only her middle finger as a response, and stormed back through the security door ... all with the local newspaper reporter standing next to her.
Bwahahahaha.... You do know who Capo is talking about, right? Vernon Robinson. Burr's staffer gave Vernon Robinson the finger. Too...funny...for words.
While I certainly have my differences with Capo and his piece, I will agree with at least one thing he said:
One person combined with many other "one persons" can make a difference.
Head on over and read the entire thing. Ignore the hyperbole if you can. There are pictures and videos that I didn't link to.

He also called Nathan Tabor a patriot
Yeah...right.
Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.
if patriot means
a person hell bent on making our country look like 1930s Italy then yeah, Tabor is a patriot.
"Keep the Faith"
Funny stuff
Do you remember that we met Capo at Converge South? He was sitting at our table for lunch. Seemed like a nice guy.
What a crazy world we live in.

PS By the way, the whole Burr approach to immigration reform was nothing but theatre. We was a big fat NO all the way on this issue, but wanted to give the appearance of being reasonable and having debate. There was no doubt where he would come out from the get-go.
John Birch was Communist? What?????

Capo is a paid employee of the Birch Society for North and South Carolina. The Birch Society Charter claims they cannot be involved in any Political action movement. The purpose of the Birch Society is simple. It's to make sure that the conservative movement will never grow and to make sure it burns out its' membership with phony issues. They are very, very successful at this after 47 years.
It appears that the latest scam with Burr is becoming the laughing stock of insanity within the so-called conservative movement. The greatest fear the leadership of the Birch society has is the amazing growth of 9/11 truth movement which exposes the Birch society and the conservative republicans ie...neo-cons and the Art Popes of the world.

That is TRULY hysterical!
I'll just bet that ol' Vernon was horribly offended by that staffers gesture. Vern knows outrage and offensiveness so very well.
