Senator Dalton to Join NCFCD Debate

The N.C. Federation of College Democrats has received communication from Senator Walter Dalton that he will indeed be joining the other candidates in the first debate sponsored by the Federation to take place at UNC-Asheville. The Federation is very excited that all the candidates have decided to take part in these debates. The representation of all the candidates will allow for greater perspective on the important issues that these debates will bring to the arena of public debate.

The first debate in the six part series will take place at UNC-Asheville on January 19th, 2008, at 2 p.m.

Below is the email we received from Senator Dalton:

Doug –

Thank you and the North Carolina Federation of College Democrats for sponsoring debates for the Lt. Gubernatorial candidates. It is a huge undertaking and I appreciate your willingness to provide a forum for the candidates to have an issue based discussion regarding the role of the Lieutenant Governor.

I am writing to confirm my attendance at the debate planned for Asheville on January 19th and in Fayetteville on January 24 th and look forward to attending as many of the remaining debates as I can.

Please include Jason Sulham from my campaign in any pre-debate planning communications and discussions.

Thank you again for providing this opportunity. I hope you and your family are having a great holiday season.

Sincerely,

Walter Dalton

That's nice...

the other rich Raleigh candidate is in.

Thanks...

I'm glad there are people around to say what I merely think...

That's funny...

I don't think any of the other candidates live in Raleigh?

Unless, you are talking about the fact that Hampton works in Raleigh, which wouldn't really be too smart, since his frame seems to be that "your" candidate has no experience in Raleigh.

Also, do you think people in NC really distrust "Raleigh" the same way they distrust "Washington"?

One of the pitfalls of childhood is that one doesn't have to understand something to feel it. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon

I don't have a dog in this fight but....

Also, do you think people in NC really distrust "Raleigh" the same way they distrust "Washington"?

Yes. In my work around the state, one of the worst things you can say is:

We're from Raleigh, and we're here to help.

It would work the same way for Charlotte, btw. There is a perception in the rural parts of the state that people from the Triangle, and people from the Great State of Mecklenberg have no idea how things work in the real North Carolina.

Before you pile on - I'm merely reporting what I've observed. I don't feel this way myself.

YUP

In fact, I defy a state worker to utter the words "I'm from Raleigh and I'm here to help" without grinning sheepishly. And yes, I think it would also work that way for Charlotte. It's a big ole place and there's lots of power concentrated there.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing
-Edmund Burke

This is excellent news!

I am so grateful to the NC College Dems for pulling this together! Fantastic!
