North Carolinians for Torture
H.R.2082 is the Bill in Congress which would have, if passed, overridden President Bush’s Veto of the bill to prohibit torture, making it illegal for any Agency or Department of the United States to utilized or practice torture. It did not pass.
President Bush went on National television to tell America that torture was a "valuable tool in our fight against terrorism".
We are now among those nations who violate Human rights through the officially sanctioned practice of torture.
North Carolina has six U.S. Representatives who support torture and one who is to afraid to say he also supports torture.
The list is here:
Rep. George Butterfield D NC-01 Aye (Against torture)
Rep. Bob Etheridge D NC-02 Aye (Against torture)
Rep. Walter Jones R NC-03 Nay (Supports torture)
Rep. David Price D NC-04 Aye (Against torture)
Rep. Virginia Fox R NC-05 Nay (Supports torture)
Rep. Howard Coble R NC-06 Abstain (Supports torture)
Rep. Mike McIntyre D NC-07 Aye (Against torture)
Rep. Robin Hayes R NC-08 Nay (Supports torture)
Rep. Sue Myrick R NC-09 Nay (Supports torture)
Rep. Patrick McHenry R NC-10 Nay (Supports torture)
Rep. Heath Shuler D NC-11 Aye (Against torture)
Rep. Melvin watt D NC-12 Aye (Against torture)
Rep. Bradley Miller D NC-13 Aye (Against torture)
I am at a loss to understand how anyone living in America could re-elect anybody who supports torture. But thats just me.

Supporting Torturers
It is interesting that Reps Miller and McIntyre vote against torture but still support torturers. They were the only NC Dems to vote against HR 2764 in 2007 which would have cut off funding for the School of the Americas.
