Not so Great

For the last few days, reporters, commentators, elected officials have all commented oh how high the voter turnout was . (The State Board of Elections website shows what th turnout was county by county.)

I am not sure why we are getting so excited about slightly over 1/3 of the electorate going to the polling place. Somehow the numbers tell me that even in the hottest, most exciting presidentaitl priamry in NC in decades - over 60% of the population didn't or couldn't vote.

Sort of depressing.

Got me thinking

There were tons of new registrations this year. I wonder what the voting rate of new registrants was. Are they more likely to vote since they just registered or are they less likely since they probably hand't bothered to register and vote earlier on in their lives?

I was thinking the same thing and will be downloading voter

files as soon as they are ready to compare registration dates and voting

Robin Hayes lied. Nobody died, but thousands of folks lost their jobs.

Is there an ETA on those?

I'm hellbent on proving that the 18-24 demographic actually gives a shit both here in Cabarrus and state-wide. An increase in primary action would be a solid step forward, in my opinion. Hopefully most of the 500+ kids we registered at local High Schools through April actualy showed up.

And Helms begat Reagan...

Arguably, Ronald Reagan's Helms enabled win in the 1976 NC primary was all the encouragement he needed to try again in 1980, setting the stage for the Reagan Revolution and synergistic escapades like this one...

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
