Interesting!

Never heard it called a catfish amendment before, but here's an interesting tidbit. The Civil Rights Act of 1964, as originally proposed, prohibited discrimination based on race, color, religion, or national origin. A Southern member of the Congress thought adding sex would make it so unpalatable to the majority that the bill would fail. The best laid plans of mice and men . . .

Hey Look -

They're planning to shut the barn door after the horse has gotten out.

Isn't life amazing?

A 'NFS' moment:

"Brokers work with lenders to offer home buyers finance choices. But unbeknown to many borrowers, lenders give brokers financial incentives to steer home buyers into loans with higher interest rates, especially adjustable-rate mortgages. Some such loan rates can spike up brutally high."

Imagine that!

Loan money to people who can barely afford the initial payments, charge more interest than common decency allows and increase that interest rate at the earliest opportunity, and guess what? Some of them can't make the payments! I was just reading where Bear Stearn had to bail out one of their subsidiaries over just this kind of thing.

Who's That?

Bear Stearn

Is that somebody famous I should know about?

(yeah, I'm serious)(Bear Bryant I've heard of Bear Stern ... not so much)

It's an investment company.

that owns some hedge funds it now wishes it had not invested in.

Investors in a 10-month-old Bear Stearns (BSC) hedge fund are learning the hard way the danger of investing in risky bonds with borrowed money. The investment firm's High-Grade Structured Credit Strategies Enhanced Leverage Fund, as of Apr. 30, was down a whopping 23% for the year.

Here's

an update on the catfish story.

Unique's picture

That's funny

I could totally see myself saying that:

popular among Southern lawyers and politicians: "Hold still little catfish, all I'm gonna do is gut you."

Another Mess of Catfish

Good catch (not me - the fish)

Always use the right bait, right?

TrueMeckDem on Myers Park Pat

"My opinion of Pat has changed over the years. I used to think he was truly a man of the people but the longer he has been mayor, the less I think of him.

As with most cities, Charlotte has three political parties: Dem, Rep, and Chamber of Commerce. Pat is definitely the puppet of the COC here. What is good for business is good for Charlotte and Pat ... very personable guy, he has gotten a bunch of Dems in these parts to vote for him but I don't trust him."
