What's the difference between a hen and a cro?

Being Republicans, the answer is obviously NOTHING.
Republican birds of a feather ALWAYS flock together.
Ray-Gun's 11th Commandment, and all.
North Carolina. Turning the South Blue!
Corvids
are extremely bright.
Not saying that's a point in McCrory's favor. in fact, it only makes him more formidable a candidate.
Just pointing out that hens and crows are very, very, very different critters, and don't flock together.
They flock together if they are Republicans,
in fact, they follow the leader, no matter the feather they were assigned in the beginning.
Consider the US Congress at this time, with the Republicans all banding together to bring the House and Senate to a halt using procedural maneuvers to hold up legislation so (they think) the American people will think that the Democratic led Congress is DOING NOTHING.
Check this:
From WaPo
Freaking Mother's Day?
Yes, they flock together. Anyone believing anything else is missing the point.
North Carolina. Turning the South Blue!
Perhaps
I'm guessing there was something else at play in this "Mother's Day" vote, but more to the point, I think one of the many reasons Democrats are so excited about the upcoming general election is that a lot of Republicans don't want to "flock together" with McCain.
To get back to McCrory and McHenry, I've seen a lot of anti-McHenry posts on another blog -- from Republicans. He's embarrassed 'em, (proving that they are capable of being embarrassed, which is an idea that has been open to question for a good while.)
McCrory, on the other hand, attracts cross-over votes, so, again there are real differences between this "crow" and that "hen."
There was nothing else in the Mother's Day vote other than
simple obstruction. Go check it out.
As far as one of these guys being embarassing and the other attracting cross over votes, it means nothing in the scheme of things.
McHenry has had time in National Office to embarass himself on a National Stage. McCrory has not. Give him time. He is, after all, a Republican.
It does not matter that McCrory is considered a moderate. If he were to somehow be elected to the position of Governor here in NC, his rhetoric would change immediately to whatever his constituancy prefers (re-election and Ray-Guns 11th Commandment).
Granted, there are of course differences between McH's and McC's style, presentation and how they are viewed. MY point is that when boiled down to their essance, they are the same.
North Carolina. Turning the South Blue!
Varmints!
Oh dear, I can't let go of the hen/crow thing. Crows are more likely to be called varmints of course, since hens are so useful.
The bottom line, as you've said, is that they are not good news for the state. McHenry is just bat-sh*t disgraceful and McCrory stands ready to serve big banks and Duke Energy.
His contest with Perdue will be hard fought.
It's hard to believe McHenry will be reelected, but then I'm not savvy to the ways of that district at all. And as a person who lives in Wake County, I recall that Russell Capps, whose IQ was indiscernible, was able to hang on to his house seat for so long, long, horrible time.
Thanks heavens we've got Ty Harrell now, a true progressive with a lot of promise.
Ty really is a diamond, and perhaps not in the rough, even
at this early stage.
Keep electing Democrats and once in office, keep them honest or Primary their asses and bring in someone new to try on for size. That's how I see it.
We know when a Republican gets into office, no matter their stripes before the election, those stripes will miraculously turn to spots very soon.
Our mission, should we choose to accept it, is to throw those bums out, throw them under the SUV so to speak, and elect people that we can either train to be what we want, or in Ty's case, come into play ready to do the peoples work right away.
;-)
North Carolina. Turning the South Blue!
Ty Harrel doesn't pay his taxes?
Ty Harrel has had numerous issues paying his taxes. He even had his wages garnished once. yes we need more ty harrels.
There are similarities, too.
The few friends I have who know both say each as a strong elitist streak. And they both whine a lot. Hen seems to do his whining public. Crow is more of a behind-closed- doors kind of whiner.
Here's the real question, though. If the policy and style similarities between Hen and Crow can be brought into focus, does it hurt Crow more than it helps Hen? I'm betting Pat McCrory wants to keep as much distance from Pat McHenry as possible.
If there is any way to tie even the slightest similarities
between Hen and Cro, our NCDP needs to be putting that information together right away for consumer consumption.
Hen is such a friggin' embarassment to anyone outside of the Bush 20 percenters, that by tying Cro to Hen would be akin to tying Cro to Bush.
Unfortunately, Hen's constituancy is made up heavily of the 20 percenters, however foturnately Cro's state wide constituancy is not.
That was fun to type! ;-)
Hey, NCDP? Go get 'em, tiger!
North Carolina. Turning the South Blue!
Bush under 30%, Democratic Congress under 20%
Yes it is embarrasing to have a approval rating under 30%. That is of course unless your the Democratic Congress with a approval rating under 20%!!!!!!!
Well, we're not worried too much,
most people have figured out where the problem lies.
Person County Democrats
Republicans approve of Congress more than Democrats do
You might not want to crow about that Gallup poll without reading the whole thing.
Or am I foolish to expect the party of George W. Bush to stop cherry-picking and context-dropping just 'cause they've failed to prosecute a war effectively or even hold onto their seats in Congress?

Who controls NC and who is responsible for it's failure?
The mental healthcare system is a total failure, the states criminal justice and probation systems are a total failure, our roads crumble after a few months, the state legislature is under fire for corrupt members and convicted felons, and our governor makes appointments based on how much you raise for him.
Dan Blue was the Speaker of the State House, then hired by ElectriCities, then appointed to house seat 33, and finally voted on legislation in favor of ElectriCities. All of Dan Blue's donations have come from PAC's to include $1000 from ElectriCities and $250 from TWC. He is not getting individual donations because he would have to actually get out into the community.
I am not rich, but I am tired of being taxed into poverty. The state needs to give the multi-million dollar surplus back to the middle class and small businesses that pay it and survive despite it. Stop giving millions to billion dollar corporations and spend it on our schools. Bev Perdure has served on the state education board and is partly repsonsible for our schools failing. You cannot blame Republicans, you are in charge not us.
oh good lord
Paul,
What on earth is a far-right-winger doing on this blog? Don't get me wrong. I'm not sayin' ain't no right-wingers allowed to post or nuthin', but GEEZ, you're extreme even for "talkingaboutpolitics.com," which is dominated by right-wingers.
Have you and the Colonel been talking or something?
Are you thinking you're going to pull some voters away from Dan Blue on this blog?
Just curious.
And hello~
Brunette
Funny I worked on Pat's campaign, funny place for a right winger
I read some of the posts on this Blog and laugh. Here they do not care about the failures in NC or the corruption and closed government by Democrats. I wonder if any of them even pay taxes. If there were not so many failures with schools, roads, government, crime, taxes, and garbage disposals ( see Raleigh City Council), I would not have entered this arena.
I actually care about what happens to us here in NC, I am NC first. Juts let your readers know that NO, illegals cannot join the military. You need a VALID birth certificate and SSN to enlist.
Who is extreme?
You have people on this blog that want to move NC further to the left. That is extreme. I am a US Army veteran, University graduate, and life long taxpayer. No CODE PINK using witch craft in Cally is extreme.
That's very interesting, Paul
What university and what degree? This is a matter of pure curiosity, so if you don't want to answer, I won't pester you about it.
Yes, I am among those on this blog who want to move NC further to the left. In fact, I may be going out on a limb here, but I would guess that most of the more active participants here believe we need to move to the left. (And I can't verify this suspicion, but I do have an idea that virtually all of us here are "life-long taxpayers.")
Not sure what is meant by "witch craft in Cally," but maybe I'm just not well plugged in to the most current political lingo. Would you please explain?
Veterans
As a Republican veteran, you should be embarrassed and ashamed about what your party has done to America's armed forces. And before you go thinking your military service gives you some special status, there are plenty of other veterans here at BlueNC, including me.
James
PS Further to the left? Are you nuts? I'd be happy if we could just get back to the the center instead of operating on the lunatic right-wing fringe all the time.
Getting back to the center means moving further left
Just pointing that out~
Well there's that.
But given that we haven't moved left in at least a decade here in North Carolina, it's kinda hard to think of getting back to the center as moving "further" left.
I do get that
But we're talking simple directions here. We are WAY OFF center here in NC. We're so far to the right here that if North were "up" and East were right, this state has swung so far that we're in danger of reaching Hawaii the long way 'round and no leis on arrival.
Now I'm dizzy.
Do you mind me asking what
Do you mind me asking what you would consider to be "center"? Not saying NC is there, but I'm curious as to how you could think we're that extreme.
er . . .well
I was just being a *TAD* facetious there, NCmoderate. Sorry for the lapse into overstatement, but I was enjoying myself.
I could have made the point, I suppose, by noting that quite a few, if not most of the politicians in this state who call themselves Democrat would likely be called Republican in states outside the South.
But even at that, I suppose I'd be considered "left" of center. I think, for example, the freakin' idea of banning flag burning is ridiculous and unconstitutional. I think there's no question that we should allow children of illegal immigrants to be educated in our colleges. I think the death penalty is foolish and should be abolished. Those are three examples, but I could come up with others.
Haha, I just realized that i
Haha, I just realized that i look kinda strange for responding to the comment about Hawaii. I meant to just respond to your comment of NC being "WAY OFF center".
I feel smart now.
How do you figure we are far
How do you figure we are far right in this state? We have had two Republican governors and GOP control of the state how many total years since reconstruction.
In this state we keep electing democrats, last time I looked the Democratic party is left of center.
Hi Paul. If moving more to the left means more Justice,
less poverty, more rights for workers, a cleaner and safer enviorment, less Government privitization, and end to usless and meaningless war, no more etc..etc...ect.. then YES... I am for moving a bit more to the left.
50 degress to the left would put us about center in todays enviorment.
And this is from a retired US Marine, Vietnam veteran, former US Diplomat in Iraq and Senior Analyst for the DoD.
I am for honesty over Party
Someone in this country has to make the money that you tax to fun programs for those that do not work. We have retirees, medically and mentally unable to work and of course physically unable to work.
Where i work i have health and disability insurance. It is not a full proof set up but it is something I pay for. I earn through my job. But once you get take care of the ones who cannot take care of themselves, you have the ones that can but will not work.
With the help of my service in the military and the Pell Grant program I graduated from Old Dominion University after serving four years in the military. I accomplished all of that. I had some help but I can say I did 95% of it on MY OWN.
You see that one can get sick and tired of being over taxed and frustrated with government mismanagement and corruption.
Why don't you guys question why Dan Blue was a State speaker of the House, ElectriCities lobbyist, appointed to the 33rd house seat, voted on and supported legislation for ElectriCities and now has accepted a $1000 PAC donation from ElectriCities? This one fact amongst the other failures in this state has me just a little pessimistic about your (Democratic) integrity and so called honest intentions. Do I claim other GOP'ers are angels? No, I can only speak for me and what I see. I call it as I see it. That is why I am glad Decker got busted and will not vote for Morgan. I voted for Govenor Wilder when he was running for office in Virginia. So I can say I always pick the best candidate and choose honesty over Party. I cannot see how some of you guys can say that.
Show your work
If the SRA or VEAP in addition to Pell Grants only covered 5% of your educational expenses for college (I count tuition, housing, books, fees, and so forth), then I'd say those programs largely failed to fulfill their intent for a four-year veteran at a public university.
How'd you reach that 95% figure?
If a college student has all of his educational expenses paid by his affluent parents, what percentage of the accomplishment belongs to him? Can he legitimately claim at his graduation that he "did it on his own" in a way that an inner-city youth who gets a full ride through federal, state, and university assistance programs cannot? If not, why?
Does the answer change if either student works a part-time job for some disposable income?
What about a student who takes out loans to fund his or her college expenses? Do those count for or against doing it on his or her own? Does the answer change if no one else contributes to the student's educational expenses? Does the answer change once the loans are paid off?

Hello, It is called a part
Hello,
It is called a part to full time job while I worked along with living off campaus and receiving well over 12k from my GI Bill. Dude I did it almost entirely on my own. My mom gave me some spending money and my dad COULD NOT AFFORD TO HELP ME. My dad was a hard working middle class guy who worked himself to death thank you very much. I am middle class through and through I stand up to the policies of redistribution of wealth.
So, uh, about that ninety-five percent...
No one has challenged your effort at earning your degree.
I am asking you how you came up with your figure of 95%.
(As far as I'm aware, "ninety-five percent" is a quantitative measure, not a qualitative one like "mostly", "quite a bit", or "nearly all".)
Could you also define "redistribution of wealth" for us, as you apply the term? For example, does it apply to any or all of the following: 1) sales taxes; 2) income taxes; 3) capital gains taxes; 4) consumption taxes (such as the federal gasoline tax); 5) tariffs and duties on imports and exports; 6) tolls on government-owned turnpikes; 7) taxes to support the construction of sports arenas for NFL, NBA, or MLB teams, convention centers, and similar projects; 8) "sin taxes" on alcohol and tobacco; 9) lottery ticket sales; 10) property taxes; 11) lottery payouts to winners; 12) payment of revenues from the taxes in 7), 6) and 4) to construction firms and contractors; 13) child tax credits on federal income taxes; 14) deductibility of interest from mortgage and student loan payments on federal income taxes; 15) deductibility of business expenses from federal income taxes; 16) the federal WIC program; 17) tax abatements offered by state governments to entice (usually large) companies to site facilities within their jurisdication; 18) exemption of religious facilities from property and income taxes; 19) publicly funded schools (from preschool through graduate school); 20) publicly funded scholarship grant programs; 21) publicly-subsidized mortgage and student loan programs; 22) publicly funded police and fire services; 23) goods and service prices in excess of the supply-demand equilibrium which occur in the presence of a monopoly or collusion among producers; 24) criminal fraud for pecuniary gain.
Please also clarify if cases such as 12-15 and 18 would constitute wealth redistribution only in the context of other taxes assessed on the individual taxpayer or members of a religious organization, as applicable.
Thanks for shedding some light on your beliefs.

Hey there Paul --
What on earth did you mean over at www.talkingaboutpolitics.com when you said this:
"Family values are something the left can never gain."
????
Family values in poll by PPP for Dole vs Hagan
Dole wins big time when people select their candidate based on family values.
yeah, but the polls say she isn't winning big time so far
I don't think Dole is all that popular, frankly.
Man you even have socialists on this Blog, cool!
Less governemnt privitization? Hello? You live in the USA not the former Soviet Union.
Government does create jobs, small business does. Government cannot create real wealth, only private industry can. Please see the fall of the Soviet Union for your referral. Seriously, even communist China has recognized that capitalism is the only answer for creating wealth. They have privitized most of their industries. Even their government controlled companies are a partnership with private corporations.
Public-private partnerships
So, China's public-private parternships are a success story for capitalism in your view?
Are you familiar with how the Chinese stock market works?
Now, I should perhaps not get ahead of myself. Perhaps you are indeed an advocate of state capitalism rather than the laissez-faire variety.
So can we be clear here? Can you define "capitalism" and "free markets" for us in a way that is compatible with the contemporary economic policies of the People's Republic of China?

Given that the GOP is a "Big-Tent Party", I'm afraid I can deduce little about your beliefs through your self-identification with that party.
Can you elucidate on what types of government interference in the free market you consider acceptable and/or necessary?

Don't worry about it Doug! The term conservative was invented in the middle 60's simply to fool people about the constitution on talk radio and in strange Republican party circles. Heck! even Hilter and Stalin were consider conservative by many liberal fools at one time. In fact the term Liberal was invented at the same time to fool talk radio listeners and Republicans that all Liberals were San Francisco Hippies smoking pot who work in Bathhouses. Meanwhile, the same dudes that invented Conservative and Liberal toss another ringer into the political debate by inventing the term "Left" and "Right" to really confuse the sheep out there in politics.
Frankly! You should have said! " I will be never a real fascist or communist when it comes to government schools" Or maybe you should have said " I will be a middle of the road guy, when it comes to government schools" Of course the down side to that term is that anybody who stands in the middle of the road in politics gets run over from both directions by zealots of both terms.

Linda!!! Did you and I discuss tihs already?
Because I absolutely ADORE crows. I'd love to lay eyes on a raven, but they don't hang out much around these parts. It's the same attraction, though. They're just so danged big and tough and fascinating to look at. I can understand the nuisance crows create for people, but to me they're just beautiful, beautiful creatures.
No, Bru, I don't think we've talked about it before
but it's another reason for that glass of wine that's waiting for us, somewhere, out there.
I watch crows all the time. The only time I've seen a raven was at a festival in Maryland. They had a wildlife center bring in owls, hawks, a golden eagle, and a raven, along with various reptilian weird things, like a lizard that everyone thought was a snake because it had no legs.
The birds were either being rehabilitated to be released, or they were for some reason unable to be released. The raven was one of the latter. I got to put on the glove and let the raven step onto my arm. Just as he was doing that, something startled him, so he flapped his wings. DAMN! Big strong bird. And beautiful just beautiful.

But....did either one of you know

I've never really liked them because in a lot of the fantasy books I've read, they are the eyes and ears of the Debil.
No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

That may be due to the fact that crows are carrion eaters.
It also may be due to pre-Christian mythology that had crows and ravens strongly identified with Goddesses who, if their tales are to be believed, would not go gently into that dark night.
Lots of fascinating mythology stuff on that page. And remember, one person's mythology is another person's religion is another person's folktale.

yeah, they're wicked *and* beautiful!
Such a bonus!
In fact, this morning I watched a mockingbird drive a crow off from a nest. It's funny how the mockingbirds chase the crows and the crows chase the hawks. (Or not funny, I suppose if one is trying to protect a baby bird.)
The appeal of corvids is decidedly different from that of a blue bird or a bunting, fer shur. But I just love 'em.
