Christmas

Just heard from Betsy. She's been off for a bit, managing things on the home front.

How are things on your side of the blogosphere? I'm pretty much done my Christmas shopping!

Spag and Bubba

still holding forth as pompous blowhards over at Ed's place. Steve Harrison doing a mighty job trying to strike the scales from their eyes. Pretty funny stuff.

Give it up, Steve. Some people really prefer perpetual blindness.

Well, I'm doing it

more for the lurkers than I am for the deniers, but you probably already knew that.

But fighting just to get back to square one is a royal pain in the ass, I must say.

I know you are ... and it's a valuable service

Those two are like tweedle-dee and tweedle-dumber. I used to get my knickers in a knot because their their blather, but I reframed it as ignorance on parade. Now it's just silly spectacle. Even fun sometimes.

Spag and Bubba think Global Warming comes from the Sun?

It may surprise you that the man who found the Titanic would really prefer to be known for this: six foot tall tube worms Ballard found by accident on an expedition he led near the Galapagos Islands.

"So when you went down that day, you went down thinking that the origin of all life on Earth was sunlight?" Logan asked.

"The sun, exactly. When we began this expedition, we weren't even thinking about that," he replied.

"We were stunned," he added.

These tube worms were 8,000 feet below the surface, living in total darkness, thriving off the energy of the Earth, not sunlight. It was something no one in the scientific world believed possible.

"Because we had been told that all life on the planet owed its existence to the sun, that it was sun that was the driving energy of life. And so when you go into the deep sea, you don't have great concentrations of life, because the sun can't get there. So that's in our heads when we go down and we turn the corner and it's Disneyland. I mean, look at that concentration of life. And it didn't make sense to us initially," Ballard said. "It was a discovery of massive dimensions."

"This is far more important than finding the Titanic. The Titanic we knew about. We did not know about this system. And it's completely rewritten biology books, chemistry books. For many people this is where life began on Earth," Ballard said.

Asked if no one even knew these worms existed, Ballard said, "Didn't even predict it."

Change doesn't happen in a day?

Are you one of the people who regularly stop by the NC Democratic Party web site to keep abreast of all the big happenings? If so, you must be a masochist.

Exciting changes are underway to help you stay informed about the critical events, news, and issues facing our state and nation. If you haven’t already, sign up to receive our free newsletter. Or contact your county party to learn the many ways you can get involved. Remember, change doesn’t happen in a day. We all have to do our part one day at a time.

Today is November 30. The most recent update to the NCDP website was made on October 7th. All of which suggests that Mr. Young is a bit confuzzled. Change not only doesn't happen in a day, it also doesn't happen in two months.

I'm guessing (hoping?) Mr. Young and company are building a sparkly new website to replace the dysfunctional placeholder currently in use. So I offer this friendly advice from an ex-Democrat who would love to rejoin the party: Get your online act together. This is flat-out embarrassing.

I've hidden the "recommended posts"

block because it seems to be totally random, which I personally find distracting.

It's always something.

New law in NC - Some License Plate Frames Banned

Equality NC has a take of it on their blog.

Here's the link to the bill and the votes on it.

The text of the law is here. Note that it says you only get a warning until Nov 30, 2010.

Other MSM outlets are reporting on the texting while driving ban, but this law could get you stopped/delayed as well.

It's time to end divorce in North Carolina

The logical next step in defending hetero marriage. I wonder what the bigots at the NC Family Policy Council will say about this exciting new development?

Oh wouldn't it be hilarious if the right wing

showed up and voted for "The 2010 California Marriage Protection Act", thinking it was another ironically worded ban on gay marriage Act, only to find themselves terminally married?

Guess what?

NC Republicans have some fresh ideas about taxes.

Not.
